I found this R2D2 toy while cleaning out a room at my parent's house. It takes a 9 Volt battery (though it still didn't react even with a new one), has a speaker in the back, and a couple of long wires with metal clips at the end. I've tried looking for something like it online to see what it was for but I've had no luck. I have no idea what it went to or what it's purpose is. If anyone knows please let me know!

Did a quick image search via google and beleive it or not it is actually a launch control for the mini R2D2 rocket stater set.

You can see your controller here, not antique I'm afraid it's classed as modern.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! It's been killing me not knowing what it was! I tried google but I had no idea what to search for. Thank you!

 yeah I really geeked out on this one, in all honesty all I did was type 9 volt r2d2 in google image and there it was.

To the OP, your welcome glad it helped.
