Has anyone noticed prices on Palitoy 12 / 20 backs are dropping dramatically the last few weeks . I seen a graded 85 Greedo going for £900 , 2 graded 80 Vader 12 backs for £1200 , a R2 12 back graded 80 go for £820 etc

Any thoughts ?

I saw a afa 80 20 back walrusman go for £575 in ebay auction recently

i'm not an expert on palitoy moc prices

But perhaps more coming onto the market at the same time, because sellers were perhaps trying to cash in on the popularity at present, has made prices fall back slighty. The more that are available at one given time will make the piece dip in value slighty.

Does anbody correlate price data on palitoy moc sales to notice any trend

p.s there still very expensive to me and make good coin

It's all down to Vectis I think. Prior to these finds the numbers were genuinely low, that combined with the fact many had maybe already done a Kenner 12 back run and fancied the logo as a collecting change of direction.
It doesn't look like there's any signs of them slowing down on the palitoy front and it's only really a matter of time before more finds crop up so there's bound to be a levelling off

Supply and demand innit

The £2.5k Greedo I think everyone agreed at the time that it was a complete oddity/outlier.

The highest R2 on Vectis I saw was £1.3k, most go for between £800 and £950 and that has been the same for over 12 months. Vader more for a couple of the early ones, but levelled off to be abit more than the R2s over the past 12 months but again, pretty constant. If the prices vary from those ranges it's not by hundreds of quid, just the odd £50/£100 or so.

I think we knew the earliest would be the highest prices, they were the nicest examples, hence all the 85s around, and people were either finishing off runs or not expecting quite so many more to be available.

It's nice to know that the people who'll suffer now are the flippers who've bought high and are now likely to have to sell much lower. A HH and Wally have just been listed for ridiculous prices by a well known ebay plonker who'll never get that price now.

I've been keeping my eye on the Palis as I fancy completing my run with a couple. Did the r2 sell yesterday? I saw that the reserve wasn't met.

Well this game is a little random sometimes :!:
A 20 back Greedo on Vectis achieved a hammer price of 3K well over a year ago and then another soon after in the same condition also at Vectis hit £600 odd.

When I was going for the set starting back in 2009 I paid as little as £160 and as much as £650 with the majority costing around the £400 mark for mostly UKG/AFA 80-85 worthy condition.

I don't think these incredible 2.5-3K prices achieved now for mint 20 backs is a true reflection of their value-with the possible exception of the Power Droid, I just think it is the result of a lot of hype and excitement and there being some relatively new eager collectors and investors who have a hell of a lot of money :!:

I think you'd probably still see £2.5k+ prices for Luke, Chewie and Ben. Don't recall there being many Ben Kenobi for sale anywhere, and he was never cheap.

by the time Vectis have finished palitoy 12/20 wont be rare! to be fair all you
ever need over the last 20 years was a big wallet. but when you see cases of 20
odd mocs sold lets be honest the prices are going to take a hit

The r2 is back up at £1450. From the bidding it was never going to get that high IMHO. Will watch with interest :?:

Sorry to mention modern in this thread but I have definitely noticed prop replicas dropping in price - huge difference compared to even a month ago. Was watching the graded R2 as well and secretly hoping it wouldn't sell for a high price. Fingers crossed the bubble has burst

Yeh 100% mate, I was just talking about 20 backs-sorry should have been clearer.
Luke was 2.5K 15 years ago and when Chewie was deemed rarest 12 back(barring large head Han and VCJ of course) he shot right up and has more or less remained right up there. Ben again has shot up over the last few years too as has Leia and Han.
So glad I kept my mint 12 Luke after seeing one sell on eBay for around $11000 a few weeks ago  phew :p

My prices were all from Vectis, I had a quick look on eBay this afternoon and did find some high priced Palitoy stuff still. I thought the prices had fallen for most Palitoy 12/20s but quite a few were higher than I'd have thought they'd go for.

$11k! Wow

I have been watching them too, and that Greedo was a Shocker. An 85 Walrusman went for near that too. Remember a Luke was going around £4-5k? I have no money to play with any more, but if I did I would be put off going for more Palitoys because of the sheer number appearing. There's another bunch on Vectis this month. What's that, about the 7/8 auction with them in a year? A box of DSC, LXW, and I heard about one of R2s. How many other boxes will suddenly appear?

Yes, http://www.starwarstracker.com can do all this sort of price analytics to the card-back level. In short, I would agree that Palitoy prices are cooling compared to recent history. For example, this graph probably says it all for the Greedo 20bk (ungraded).

But, the market for early Palitoy stuff is very volatile, and that trend doesn't fit all of it. Comparatively there are so few examples on the market at any one time, and all it takes is a couple of dedicated punters to blow one example off the chart. Very hard to have a "suggested retail" price for this area of collecting.

Cheers, Jared.

After a trial period and then a second trial period, I pulled the trigger on this Java app.. really glad I did too. Not even touched the sides of uploading my collection fully to the 'personal catalogue', but the regular market watch updates that are emailed based on the bits have logged are very interesting. I have long term plan to add it all properly at the end of this summer.

I'd guess that the much greater availability than say 15 years ago, rather than making the price drop dramatically, has made the prices in the high range that they now command. (when I put my set together in 2002 the vast majority of 12/20 were below the £500 mark.

With more available, I reckon more people are thinking that it's a set they can actually put together, so far more people are trying to put the set together. I was told it was impossible to do back in 2002, not because of demand, but entirely because of availability and that probably put a lot of people off...and as MOC go, back then they were still a lot more expensive than Kenner 12/20.

Now so many more are available of the though 5 (Luke, Chewie, Han, Leia & Ben) that more people are battling it out over them...even the more common ones and so their prices are also very high in relation to their relatively high number in existence ( though not necessarily available for sale)
