Premier League 2019/2020 Thread

Agree about Beckham. Very good player, but not the wonder he was made out to be, by any stretch.

Lots of Man U players in particular, seem to get picked for England, even when bang average: Lingard and Jones spring to mind. I remember Jones being played in midfield for England and Mark Noble and Danny Drinkwater being overlooked in 2015/16. Those two had been outstanding all season and must've wondered WTF was going on! Clearly, that Man U badge goes a long way.

Not just Man U a few Pool players have to. Whatshisface Kelly, now at Palace and the delightful human being that is Jon Flannigan.
It seems to be default setting fir England managers that just cos someone is getting games at a "big" club and is English, that they must deserve to be picked.

Cleverly would be another Utd one, and Danny Well-kack.

How about an over rated PL 11.

I'm struggling to get to 11 off the top of my head. I'll start us off with two though.

Cantona, Captain. (See my previous rants about the over rated surrender monkey)

Beckham. Don't get me wrong, he was a very good PL player, but no more. The definition of a one trick pony. He could whip in a great cross. That's it. Yet the media, mainly the English media, ****ing loved him. He was the second coming. That free kick he scored against Greece to get England to Euro 2000 (?) summed his whole career up. One great free, yup fair dos. But no one seemed to notice the fact it was his 9th of the game (yes, I counted) and every other one went wide. The last person to be so selfish and so **** at free kicks plays for Juventus. Added to that every time Greece attacked Gary Neville was getting spit roasted cos golden balls was away off trying to play CM and not bothering to do anything on the right hand side where he was meant to be. But he scored 1 free kick so he is "world class". Jog on.

Two spots down, 9 to go. Over to you boys.

Ohh and I don't have a grudge against Utd legends, I just think those two get far far more credit than they deserve.

Zaha, I've never watched such a wasteful player in years, yet he's hailed as Palace's messiah as he occasionally pulls them out a result.

He's a diving wee **** too.

Ohh and for the record. Liverpool furloughing staff is ****ing poor. A bad decision that reflects really really badly on the club.
Not quite as bad as Levy putting his staff on it while paying himself £4million quid and a £3million bonus, but that doesn't say much and sure as **** doesn't make it acceptable.

African PL 11

Ehhh insert name of keeper here
Kolo Toure
Radebe
Lauren
Essien
Yaya Toure
Mahrez
Mane
Drogba
Salah
Aubameyang

Honourable mentions Kanu, Yeboah, Adebayor, Okocha.

Surely there is a keeper out there? All I could think of was Bruce Grobelaar but he barely played in PL.

Forgot about those two! Yep, not just Man U, although they seem to get the most. On the bench at Man U + English = starting for England.

Surely Bruce Grobbelaar he is a legend!

Aye, but he only made about 12 appearances in PL spread over the first two seasons. There must be a more recent keeper who played at least half a season, surely?

See Jimmy Greaves is in hospital, his goal scoring record for England was remarkable. Will try and put an all time England 11 together later, flipping hard though.

England all time 11.

Manager - Sir Alf Ramsey 4-4-2

Gordon Banks

Stuart Pearce
Billy Wright
Sir Bobby Moore
George Cohen

David Beckham
Nobby Styles
Sir Bobby Charlton
Brian Robson

Wayne Rooney
Jimmy Greaves

What the feck is Becks doing in that team?
You're. Just trying to wind me up?

You think of a better wide player down the years for England, for a 3 to 4 year period he was unplayable and probably the best crosser/passer England has had. Underrated by you for sure, he should have got the ballon d'Or in 1999.

Off the top of my head, literally, Fat Frank, Stevie G and Scholesy were all better than Golden bollocks. I'm sure there are more if I think about it. Barnsey possibly.

As for the last sentence, ballon d'or? How much have you had to drink? Lol

How about a Scandinavian 11

Schmeichel Snr
Riise
Ronnie Johnson
Hyypia
Agger
Siggurdsen
Eriksen
Ljungberg
Gudjohnsen
OGS
Zlatan

Honorary mentions ehhh Schmeichel Jr, Iversen, Litmannen (best yrs where before he came to PL otherwise he was a shoe-in), Gravesen, Mellberg.

Ps, obv Nicholas Bentner was too good for this team

Eastern European 11

Cech
Petrescu
Ivanovic
Vidic
Matic
Modric
Berger
Kanchelskis
Dzeko
Schevchenko
Berbatov

Honorary mentions Rosicky, Fabianski, Rebrov (for Edd), Petrov and Smicer.

Alan Ball was an incredible winger. Looking at your eleven you're clearly a Man Utd fan
