Premier League 2019/2020 Thread

Yeah, I saw that post match. TBF to thr ref you can see how he missed it, his view was blocked by the two players in question.

It goes from the Spurs boy onto Mane and then back on to the Spurs boy. I have seen it twice and I dunno if it hits the Spurs boy for the second time AS it crossed the line, or after it has crossed the line. Don't forget it's the whole ball over the line as well. Either way it's a close call, even from the refs angle so I can see how he missed it/got t wrong. But then as a Pool fan,
I would give him the benefit of the doubt I guess.m

Anyone read this about the Spanish Super Cup Final, classic Real Madrid style.

Yup. Typical Real, win at any cost and **** everyone else.
Lovely club.

You seen the video? It's as blatant as you get.

Ashley Young to Inter. Strange one. They seem to be collecting Premiership has-beens/flops.
Although apparently they have also bid 16m for Eriksen. Amazed if they get him, surely a better club would be interested in him?

Utd should go for Eriksen, think he wants to go abroad though. I was thinking yesterday how Inter now have Lukaku, Sanchez and Young. Inter are second in the league, 2 points behind Juventus. Shows how poor that league is these days!!!

I think it was time for Young to leave Utd, been piss poor for a while.

Agreed. Eriksen wants to go abroad, no English side will be able to get him. Though do the rules on talking to clubs cos he has only 6 months left not only apply to foreign clubs.

And yeah, Serie A aint what it used to be.

Spurs and Arsenal both still fighting for relegation by the look of it. If it wasn't for the fact City are also 'struggling' I would be wondering how a team can fall so far so quickly (Spurs.)

Yep, an utter mess.
It's almost unbelievable how poor the squad (that was considered by many pundits to be one of the best in Europe two seasons ago) looks. The entire back line needs replacing (possibly keep Toby if a strong partner can be bought into support), a DM and a striker (even if Kane were fit) are all needed.
Most importantly the clear out has to happen ASAP; Winks, Dier, Wanyama, Rose, Aurier, KWP; all need to move on and be upgraded, they've hung around too long and not developed.
I'm just holding hope we miss all European competition this season and have a solid rebuild in the summer too to bottom.

I'm not even convinced about Toby. What good is a defender that won't tackle? He did exactly the same all day yesterday, just tracks back until the opponent was close enough to shoot, then did a poor job of blocking it.

I am surprised how far Spurs have fallen. They overachieved making CL final last year, that's not a dig I just don't think too many people were talking about them as potential finalists when the draw for the knock out stages was made. To go from that to PL also rans is amazing. Possibly it's the fact that you didn't freshen up the squad at all for 2 windows, that may have led to a little staleness or players resting on their laurels a bit. I guess the supposed issue between Eriksen and whoever it was who was supposedly riding his wife (Vertongen or Alderweireld I think) won't have helped. Even at that Spurs should still be a lot higher up the table.

I agree you need a DCM and back up/competition for Kane. The latter has been an issue for years though.
As for the defence, a replacement for Trippier and probably Rose too. Then one new CB. That's a lot of work for one window though.

Strange old game yesterday.

Pool were very much second best, right up until they scored. They then dominated for 20-25 mins before Utd came back in to it just before HT. I think that disallowed goal for the "foul" on DDG should have stood. I know Keepers get a lot of protection, probably too much, but that just wasn't a foul. Gnev and Roy Keane, both die hard Liverpool supporters, agreed. As Martin Tyler said on commentary, there was a lot less contact in that incident than in the Everton game when DDG was involved with two Everton players. The latter stood as a goal, the former didn't. The joys of the consistency of the PL decision making.
TBF, had that goal stood I suspect Utd would have crumbled, they were rocking at that point and two down to that Liverpool side at Anfield may well have been too much for them. It was disallowed though, and probably for the best for those who wanted to watch a competitive game rather than a walk over.

Start of the second half Pool all but blew Utd away. They had seven shots in ten minutes and Utd could barely string two passes together. The fact it stayed 1-0 was due to some dodgy finishing from Pool and some decent (if massed) defending from Utd. Then Utd came back as the game went on and Pool/Crowd got a little nervous. 1-0 is always a flimsy lead. Last 10 mins was Utd pushing for an equaliser and well, the second goal was so late that it barely affected the outcome.

Not sure what I would take from that game if I was a Utd player/fan. Yes, in parts, you played well and pushed Pool back. Yes, you created two decent enough chances. BUT is that really enough for Man Utd!? I guess you take the positives. Utd had a few players out injured (as did Pool) and Utd are definitely a work in progress. At the same time, I think it's fair to say Pool as a club/team, are a long way ahead of Utd ATM. That game showed it.

Liverpool were the better team, Utd are so frustrating to watch, for big parts of that game most of the Utd players seem to lose all there composure and like you say couldn't even string 2 passes together. I have to say I thought Van Dyke did nudge De Gea just after he touched the ball and although it shouldn't be a foul, to the letter of the law it is. But thats just covering up the fact that to many mistakes are creeping into De Gea's game and he should have been a lot stronger, Everton and Watford are two other times I can think of where he has cost us goals and points this season.

As for Liverpool, what can I say! Best ever start to a top flight season in Europe ever!!! The league is well and trully over and its about time Liverpool won the league, 30 YEARS is far to long. My worry as a Utd fan now is are they going to do the treble?! Even the league and CL double would be hard to swallow, but matching Utds 99' treble and in a lot more style would make me consider emigrating to Mongolia.

Jesus yer man Traore at Wolves is some player. He ripped Robertson (and most the Liverpool team) apart last night. Robertson looked Moreno for 90mins. I haven't seen him beasted like that the whole time he has been at Pool. If traore can add consistency to his game he will be a world beater. He goes like **** off a stick, people just bounce off him, and his crossing was great yesterday. He looks like someone who Jurgen would mould into a class act. Wolves would no doubt want silly money though, and I can see why.

Traore seems to be getting better and better, he will undoubtedly move in the summer and for a lot of money too.
I was actually pretty disappointed with Liverpool's play/tactics, for big chunks of the match they lacked class and cheated a lot, little digs and niggles throughout the whole game and Robertson was not only poor, he was the main culprit. They don't need to resort to that and even loosing or drawing a game by not lowering themselves in that manner would be the better option... Maybe i'm just too old and somehow too naive too, I'd just prefer to see them play honestly and win with class and they're not even my team!

I didn't watch the game last night, I've cancelled all my sports packages!

Liverpool still won though, incredible run they are on, 10 games away from beating Arsenal's 49 game unbeaton streak.

That will be a good one, funny how Arsenals 50th game was against Man Utd.

Shame Utd aren't playing Liverpool again this season in league, I reckon we would have them next time! :?
