Somebody in Brazil has bought something quite expensive from me, and it's probably the country I've heard the most horror stories about after Mexico! does anyone have any advice on how to avoid getting burned? Is sending a figure by International Signed for safe enough?

If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them, maybe you can hire the A-Team.

Any place like that, I make sure I send it the most expensive way possible mate. The only way you will get FULL tracking.
So go for express courier international or something like that. Will be dear as **** but safe as houses. Sent a few things to Italy like that, without a hitch.

This is your next best option

Defo use UPS or fedex mate, they have the strongest links, they use a sub-partner abroad and still provide tracking, however it will cost a fortune.

If it goes missing i doubt royal mail would pay out, they usually find an excuse. they will use their terms and conditions.

I would also go with the trackable shipping no matter the cost if it is an expensive item. I had a Brazilian buyer on eBay as well but the items were only a combined value of $50. I chose to take my chances and post the cheapest method and luckily he received it after only a few weeks. He had good feedback and asked first before he bid but I did get pretty lucky. In the same month I also successfully sent a package to Mexico via regular mail. What are the odds of that?

I had to split it in to two packets in the end because the weight was over 2kg. A single 2.5kg parcel with tracking and £350 insurance - £110. 2 1.5kg parcels with £175 insurance each - £56. Madness!

I checked on a courier website last week for the cost of 3 boxes to go from here to Engerland. Not huge/heavy boxes (2 Tie fighters and an Attack base) and the two quotes I got were £330 and £450!

Is the Irish sea THAT big/dangerous!?

Definitely not that heavy. Will check them out next time. The good auld PO got the business and managed to (hopefully) deliver them for about £6 each.
