Over the past few months, a collector driven movement against repros and U-grades has made positive strides in the hobby, most importantly including educating folks about the harms of these two items, and specifically by resulting in a ban of the sale of repros and U-graded items in many Facebook collecting groups, a ban on the sale of repro items on SWFUK and RS, and the agreement by UKG to stop U-grading or otherwise opening most factory sealed vintage items.
The missing piece of the puzzle so far has been a request of AFA - the biggest source of U-grade designation - to end the practices of U-grading or otherwise opening any factory sealed vintage items. So David Longwater and I drafted the attached online petition, which we intend to present to AFA at Celebration VII next month. We have the support of various vintage SW action figure related websites and Facebook collecting groups (as disclosed in the petition), and would like to collect as many individual signatures as possible over the next month to present to AFA at C7.
As outlined in the petition, we hope that AFA will follow UKG's lead, recognize the importance of the preservation of our hobby (which is one of AFA's tag lines on its site: "For Evaluation, Preservation, and Authentication"), and end these practices.
You can all help continue to make a difference in the hobby by signing this petition. It takes two seconds, and there is no need to start an account on the ipetitions.com website in order to do so. If you have any questions, please ask me or David Longwater.
Thanks,
Ross Barr
