pc problem

my pc is in extension and its getting really cold on a night in there,when i start it up in morning it making a noise for a few mins then goes ok.sounds like a fan
and one know what it is

I used to have a problem like that - sounded like a distant jet engine. Computer also longer to start. Think it was the hard drive

Mine always does that, its just the fan cooling the processor during startup. Gusties the computer whizz it seems, he might know more.

hmmm it could be a fan yes... or it could be a hard drive problem... when hard drives are on the way out they can whine and knock sometimes.

download this APP install it... when you run it it should give you a tick if your hard drive is healthy or a cross if its on its way out.

this app reads the S.M.A.R.T info from your hard drive which can show you any faults that are happening to your hard drive - click the small notepad icon to read all the S.M.A.R.T. info and see if theres any crosses there...

if there is it means your hard drive is failing and it could well be time to get your data off it and onto another hard drive... ive learnt the hard way and lost about 4 drives now - they just die and never turn on again sometimes.


feel free to do the quick test and extended test for even more info
DO NOT RUN THE WRITE ZEROS TEST!! IT WILL WIPE YOUR HARD DRIVE WITH ZEROS!! leaving you with no data.....


its safe to use the rest and can give you a bit of insight to how long your drive will last.


If your hard drive passed all tests then i would say its a fan!

again - fans clog up with furry dust and can congest into heatsinks and block airflow - the dust can even burn/scorch so every once in a while get a cotton bud to clean the fan fins and use a coctail stick to unblock trapped dust bungles in the heatsink fins... you pc will love your for it


clean case fan, CPU fan and heatsink and also check graphics card fan if it has one....

it will help keep temeperatures down aswell as noise

done small hard drive it need something repairing ,big hard drive was taking ****ing forever so will do tomorrow .i think it may be a fan it only does it when its cold

usually i leave my computer on all day and night for weeks on end but if i switch it off and then turn it back on i get this horrible loud burring noise from the back where the fan is that lasts about 3 or 4 minutes and then it stops, if i hit it hard when it does it it tends to stop

thats exactly what i get . :x gonna get my mate to clean it for me ten getting shut next year and getting a lap top as this just takes to much room up

An old favourite of mine, works every time! :lol:

I think you both need to clean the air inlet thingy round your fans (obviously while the computer is turned off!).

yeah as i told my dad he can have this :lol: :lol: its a shame as its a good pc just takes to much room up.and i only use it for ebay and this **** hole so may as well get a lap top

the one i got was just 150 pound reconditioned as thats my limit as a stingy git, should have got a laptop like jabba is as it does take up a lot less space, maybe if i bash my one hard enough and break it too, thats what i will do next

what also annoys me about my one is after i been on the net for an hour or so and then log off around about 30-40 minutes later the computer starts making a noise like the hard drive is doing something and this lasts for about 6-8 minutes before it stops and its so ****ing annoying when you are trying to get some sleep but i dont like getting up to switch it off as i like the bit of light from the monitor
