Just bought a couple of things from people on here (Jeff and Gary) and as normal send it as a gift, yet both times I was charged a fee. I'm pretty sure this didn't use to happen - hence using the gift option to avoid that for both parties. This was done from two seperate paypal accounts, my selling one which is always paypal balance and my buying one which is credit card linked.

It wouldn't surprise me if they were now stiffing us for these fees!

Apologies for yet ANOTHER paypal thread!

I've had this at first i thought it was when you used a different currency, but yesterday i sent £5.50 and they charged me £0.03 !!!!

I remember once in the past it did. Anything over £30. So I sent payment in lots of £29

But since then I've not had an issue with it unless I used a credit card.

I think if you use funds directly from your Paypal account you don't get charged but if you draw funds form your bank account/debit card using Paypal you get charged.

They used to charge only for sending abroad or if funding was from your credit card. Debit cards or bank account are free and paypal balance is free.

It would not surprise me at all if they start charging you for everything you do through paypal, thieving bastards.

I get charged every transaction I do. I think if you have your paypal linked direct to your bank account you don't get charged. But if it is linked to a debit or credit card then you do.

I think this is the right answer - I don't get charged for gift payments if it uses my bank account as source. However, sometimes it decides that it can't do this (limits, usage I am not sure) and wants to use my credit card - if this is the case then I get charged for gift payments

You also get charges percentage if you are sending money in a different currency

Iain has hit the nail right on the head, this is exactly the way I have found it to work.

Agreed. I very rarely get charged... Only when foreign currencies and even then its rare.

You need to link bank to your bank account.

An added benefit is when you withdraw from PayPal and its linked. It instantly goes in... Maximum if 2 hours if not.
