Paypal now charging fee's to send gift payments ???

I have not been bothered to have a read but perhaps its something to do with the type of account you have? Premier and all that pish

God knows, I know it costs me doing it any way possible!

yeah all you need is account number and sort code (you cant do anything dodgy except pay in) and online banking websites usually have a transfer funds option, you just pop in his/her account number and sort code and it transfers the money for free.

I think ease of use and convenience of an email address to pay into (but all paypal do is link the email address to your account number anyway) tends to make people think..whats a few quid.

If your doing a gift to the UK all you have to do to avoid the 4% fee is send it in £30 incitements.

I had a play with setting up international gifts in dollars and you can send upto £30 worth approx $45 and the fee charged is 1% once you go over
£30ish thats when the fee of 4% kicks in.

Thats a 1% Fee Joe once you try sending more than about £50 dollars or over £30 in dollars then the fee jumps to the 4% :twisted:

E.g

Gift For ********
Amount sent:
-$30.00 USD
Fee amount:
-$0.30 USD Fee = 1%
Net amount:
-$30.30 USD[/quote]

-$50.00 USD = Approx £32.53
Fee amount:
-$2.25 USD Fee = 4% (Approx)

So by paying a seller / forum members (UK to UK) in increments of £30 you wont pay any fee's. If you pay people in the US in increments of $50 then you will save 3 quarters of the fee (pay 1% instead of 4%)

this seems totally random to me , a mate of mine got charged for sending £25 , yet i haven't been charged ever , wtf , maybe it is something to do with the account you have with paypal or maybe sending to other countries , ????

it also depends if you have the money in your paypal account already, and if you transfer money from a credit card or a normal bank account.

If you trust the guy just use a bank transfer through your online back acccount, maybe a tiny bit more effort but its FREE and may start paypal thinking about reducing those extorcionate charges..

I agree the fee's aren't huge but against all the ebay fee's it all adds up for a seller.

I would rather not pay it myself but what is the alternative?

Obviously they ask buyers to do this to save money but if they are charging a fee to send a gift now then there is no point them asking for this (especially as the fee is the same but you get no protection)

As long as you send gift payments in £30 lumps one at time for UK to UK you wont pay any fee's at all and if you send international gift payments in $45 lumps one at a time then you will only pay 1% as opposed to 4%

gift payments are a great way to avoid paying the fees but i suspect if gets more popular paypal will realize the amount of fee money they are losing out on and force in the charges ! so make the most of it guys while you can :wink:

Ive sent money to grant and not been charged a penny.

i sent £68, the funds were already in my paypal and all i did was send it as "personal payment owed"

I never have any funds in my pp account unless I sell something ( quite rare :lol: ) but I will try the "personal payment owed" route next time I make a buy, see if it makes a difference
