PayPal Gift Payments- Now Charging Fees?

I tried to send a gift payment last night using my balance and a top up from my debit card but found the same fees were added as if I'd used my credit card.
Went back and checked again and PayPal seem to have changed the rules do that its only free in the USA.
Has anyone else experienced this?

Was it an overseas payment? I have found these always attract fees but uk to uk is OK friends and family.

It was to Iain who I know is in the US but pretty sure I've paid gift to him before with no charges.
I think I may have figured it out, checked on the app and that says no fee for domestic gift but when I used the browser on my phone last night I typed the url as PayPal.com, not through a search engine so probably ended up on the US site, hence being told its free in the US.
Never mind, only cost a couple of quid.

Gifts are still free as far as I know - although sure it won't last forever

Although I am over here my account is still a UK one so you guys don't have to pay fees to send me money

Having had experience of paying Iain thru paypal just once or twice, i can confirm that if you are getting charged for paying gifted friends and family then you are doing something wrong.

I concur, its because I was on the US site, just sent gift to Frank with no issues using the right site. Score one for my own stupidity

Overseas payment even as gifts charge a fee.

I've sent 4 PayPal gift payments this week and none have been charged.
