PayPal asking for Photo ID now!!

If it wasn't for guys saying this has been going on for years and that they had spoken to paypal about this I would assume it was a scam. Don't understand why they need photo Id. You don't need photo id to open q bank account. Why is this any different?

It's not a scam, I've been asked as well. I'd been doing too many Gift payments iirc! :lol:

I rang them to release my account as I didn't have a photo id and the guy on the phone said I shouldn't have been asked for it and sorted things out without me providing it.

I don't mind providing necessary information, but why is it necessary to have photo ID for a faceless interface?
