'Packed in England with product made in the Far East'

This is the message that is on the Playpack, and the factory video shows other items (AT-AT) being packed in England.

Hi Lee, the comments I made were about the carded figures only. I know less about the origins and assembly point of the bigger stuff. More of this was made in Coaville, I know that much as they diffred from the Kenner counterparts. Figures were a thing that HK factories specialized in, and they could handle the volume much better than Palitoy or Kenner could initially. It's a shame none of the Palitoy proof stuff survived, It all got binned. The Kenner stuff was binned too but got saved by a couple of Kenner employees. Pretty sure about the Kenner fancy boxes stuff, I read that some where recently.

cheers Jason

With the number of our murican friends in contact with previous Kenner employees it should be straightforward to find out what Kenner did regarding assembly of MOCs. Of course, that wouldn't conclusively prove anything regarding Palitoy but it might give an indication of the capabilities of the factories in the Far East.

The other thing that has to be considered is cost. Would General Mills, sometime in the early 80s, have invested what would have been a massive amount of money to get a number of production lines up and running to seal up component parts into MOCs in the UK?

And finally, consider why the waffle pattern disappeared somewhere in the ESB range. Was this because they moved assembly to the UK and used slightly different machines?

Edit: changed Palitoy to General Mills and corrected that para.

People seem to have gotten into the nitty-gritty of the origin of the action figures. The toys and playsets seem to be a bit more tricky.

I've not been able to establish where the Kenner boxed Return of the Jedi stock came from, whether it was manufactured by Palitoy or was imported into the U.K.

The shipping cartons all say Made In Taiwan for the speeder bikes. These were the retail cartons so ended up in the shops directly so you'd have to assume they were made and boxed in Taiwan.

Found a couple of other pics as well, Kenner Jedi Chebacca carry case retail carton, Made in Mexico. But also MIHK Jabba non-retail carton, filled with loose Jabbas so maybe they were manufactured in HK but boxed in Ohio.
