Hi all.

Difficult to answer I know but, what sort of range of prices would you expect the Palitoy 30 backs to go for assuming decent quality moc? A and/or B versions.

I've just finished putting together the first 20 on 12 & 20 backs, but so few of the 30s ever come up for sale that I've no idea what to expect to pay. If they are stupid money (I.e. more than the 12backs) then I may not bother but, probably like many of you, a complete run of MOC's is the aim I started out with. [my aim has been adjusted recently to avoid any card that may be part of the scandal that is going on!!]

Any help appreciated.. Any for sale..please contact me.

All the best, Steve.

Hi Steve,

there's this one that's just turned up on ebay -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-30-B-Card-Palitoy-2-1B-MOC-MIB-MOSC-Carded-C8-Clear-Perfect-Bubble-/171219959238?pt=UK_Collectables_SciFi_fantasyCollectables_EH&hash=item27dd813dc6

This one is from completed sales -

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Star-Wars-Palitoy-Luke-Bespin-Carded-Empire-Strikes-Back-30-Bk-MOC-/141146723267?pt=UK_ToysGames_ActionFigures_ActionFigures_JN&hash=item20dd0013c3&nma=true&si=8hh3lD6Kfi5lqz9zbfE5Yp8bg6Q%253D&orig_cvip=true&rt=nc&_trksid=p2047675.l2557

I think there was also a Lando 30 back with slightly yellowed bubble that was up for around 1K a while ago and I think a clear bubble for about 1.5K.

I hope that's of some help and congratulations on completing your 20 back run :D

I've also PM'd you with a question i was hoping you can help out with (top right orange button).

All the best - Ian

Holy crap!! £2k for that Luke?

The problem with 30 backs is that they are so majorly in demand and many are possibly rarer than most of the 12/20's.

I'm not entirely sure how many complete sets of the first 20 ESB characters are out there compared to 12/20's. Personally I only know of one other than mine, whereas I've known of many more complete sets of the 12/20's.

I doubt there are only the two, but it at least gives an idea of difficulty.

Subsequently costs can be high. That Luke Bespin is a good example!

Good luck with it. I'm sure somewhere on here are several threads regarding the rarity of each of the 20. I'm crap at finding old threads so don't know where to look.

Cheers for the feedback so far.

I'm just waiting on my last figure to arrive and will then get some pics posted.

I know the 30s are going to be hard to get but I like a challenge! :)

Have you thought of quality reseals/part reseals?

I happen to have a very nice part reseal Palitoy 30 (will need to check a or b) 21-B

Any idea of value on that chaps? (sorry to steal your thread SteveAv)

While I'm at it - Whats the going rate for a 45 back Palitoy Black bespin guard?

If it's a 21b I can guarantee it's a 30b.

Only the first 10 are available on 30a. They are also available on 30b too.

It's an interesting thought on the first 10 as to which is easier. A or b. Personally I'm not sure. I think the first 10 on either are probably the harder of the two sets to complete. However the second set has the fett which is tougher than all 12 backs.

Thanks for that mate - any idea of value on a good part reseal?

Just for reference, been trying to find pics of my 30 back ESB character run, but it appears that I never posted it on here, so here's a few pics

The 30a's

The same set on 30b. (Larger logo and most notably the different Luke and Leia Pics)

And finally the second set of 10 ESB figures

Such a great sight to see! :D

Out of interests how long did it take to put both those sets together? I can only imagine the bulk of them were sourced quite a while ago.

Fantastic collection ( as ever).

Ian

Wow what a collection of Palitoys :D

Here is those pics of my 21-B. You can see where it has been resealed the opposite side has the waffle pattern and is unopened

I think I got my first 30 back in 2002 which was a 30a Luke Bespin I think.

The last one was a 30b IG88 in 2010

I bought two separate large collections in 2004, plus convinced a contact I knew to part with two I needed, which gave me 22 plus about 10+ spares. That gave me all the first 10 on 30a and the next 10 on 30b.

I didn't bother with the first 10 on 30b except for the Luke and Leia because of the different card front. Which is why I had 22.

Can't remember when I decided to go officially for the first 10 on 30b but the 8 I needed did come fairly slowly. Really didn't believe I'd do it. Though in a rather geeky fashion I have actually got a record of when I picked them up.

I was trying to complete a Palitoy WBG run and managed to get the 30b in 2006 when a large collection came up for sale on Vectis. In 2007 I picked up a cheap 30b Lando that I thought I could sell on/trade. I'm guessing it may have been around then or early 2008 when I decided to try for the set. I already had 4/10!

There was a large Palitoy sale on eBay in 2008 and the guy had several 30 backs all of which were the 30b version. He had 4 I needed and I got all of them.

Got one the next year then the final one in 2010 to complete the run. In both cases it was through long term contacts I knew and so was in a good position to make a deal. Expensive though!

So that's basically how I did it. 4 separate large collections of 30 backs came up for sale plus 3 contacts were able to provide me the remaining.

My honest feeling is that is really the only way it can be done. Individual pieces rarely come up for sale on the open market anymore. When they did it was usually the basic common ones (Lando, HRS, Lobot)

The others only turned up when it was a large collection that someone decides to sell. They do happen. I think there's been 5 large collections of 30 backs come up for sale since 2004 that I know of. However it is worth noting that none of them individually were complete. And even if you put them all together you would only have got 1 complete set. Which probably gives you an idea of how difficult they are to come by. That's 5 people who tried and failed to complete which I imagine is why they decided to sell.

I'm not saying it's impossible but time and cost are going to be major factors. I paid a lot for mine and that was years ago. I remember paying around £500 for the Luke Bespin 30a. Back then that was a lot but there were many people going for them so competition was tough. But to see one on eBay go for 2k is scary. He's not that rare compared to most of the other 30 backs.

Think you'll find that most are harder to find than most of the 12/20's you have put together.

I got to about 12 or so I think, and many were not what you would call mint, but they are out there if you have the patience, one thing that I didn't. Having said that, apart from Gary's IG and FX7 I have never seen any other examples or been offered those two, so I'd still be looking for them even now.

But like I said the 30 bks are out there, they was a recent sale of 5 of the more common ones, and I managed to drop lucky and bag 2 nice MOC's myself the other week.

Never grow tired of looking at your pics Gary, hope you are well. Not unearthed anything you need this last 12 months.....things are becoming harder to find

That's an amazing story of the dedication you put in to getting both sets together Gary. I thought it would take time to put them together but can see you really needed to cover all bases when trying to source them.

I've finished my first 30 released recently as mainly reseals. There are more options and a more affordable way to putting these together but it's still taken a lot of time and effort over the years to find fairly decent examples. With both the 20 and 30 backs I haven't been quiet as fussy on condition as I was happy to have just examples but I certainly didn't mind if the 30 backs were A or B. I think that's what is so impressive with your set, that you managed to complete them on both! It's funny though that the last ones I picked up were IG 88 and FX-7. It just goes to show that those two are tricky even as opened examples ( big thanks to those that helped out putting that set together :) ).

All the best with the hunt for them though Steve.

Ian

Wow Gary, they look fantastic.... (Would you ever consider selling??) :) [smiley face but with a hint of seriousness..]

As for reseals... I think I'd like to try and get originals. For me, the hobby is about the originality and completeness of each item and the fascination that something produced 30years ago has remained intact. If it takes a while to achieve then I'm fine with that... The fun is in the chase!

The recent scandal about some of the ROTJ/GM cards has really reinforced the above for me.

You guys obviously have some great contacts and would truly appreciate being kept in mind if you happen to hear of any for sale.

Now.. I'm gonna look at those pics of yours again Garry and imagine they're in my house! :)

Cheers, Steve

Order a large A1 print Steve and pin it to your wall. Take a few steps back and squint, use a pinch of imagination and it will almost be like they are in the room with you. Lol.

Seriously though, good luck on the hunt. The hunt is the fun. Ask around and pick up what you can. It will be a hard slog and perhaps completion is an impossible task but I am sure you will have some fun trying. All the best. Chris. 8)
