Palitoy Boba Fett MOC auction

Wow- at that price, imaging if there was a reseal on eBay.......bet that would go higher than £450 these days.....even if it had 1 day and 18 hours to go.....

Apologies if this was discussed elsewhere, excluding the majority of tri logos sold today, did Craig benifit from selling the big ticket items via Vectis when you take sellers fees into account?

I think both Boba and Ben would have realised the same result here if sold with a bit of drummed up interest plus zero commission to boot.

Marc

good point Marc

I think overall Craig will be better off as his other sales benefited from the hype over the big ticket items

Yeah, I was pretty skeptical as to what Vectis would offer but you can't fault their advertising. Having said that - I would imagine they are walking away with a pretty penny - what is it, something like 10% of sellers fees and 20% of buyers ?

I get what your saying but the amount of exposure these items have had is amazing. Everyone keeps coming up to me, have you heard about those Star Wars figures. Yours might be worth that much.

Only downside is people now thinking all carded figures are worth that much, better get my insurance upto date!

So I go into collecting hibernation for a couple of months and the first thing I'm hit with on my return is £19k Boba Fett!!! What's truly shocking is that I'm just not surprised.

Anyway at least George Osborne will be happy, Boba Fetts are single handedly pushing up the UK GDP.

I agree.

And you are correct, 10% is not all that bad considering the results on some stuff that I think went over the mark based on condition. eBay charges as much, and does far less. As much as BP's are weaksauce, it's generally understood by collectors as the price you have to pay when dealing with auction houses. The last time I checked, Heritage charges up to 25% on original art, but scales it down to 12% on anything that sells for over 1,000,000.

Another thing to consider (as I've done this before) is the behind closed door deals. I've never dealt with Vectis, but when Heritage approached me to sell off some original art, they were willing to cut their commission down to half.

Does any body know if this was a world record for any production action figure including things like GI Joe and transformers? Craig might be expecting a visit from Norris McWhirter if it is!

BT has, I'm certain, surpassed this with the sale of the DT Vader that occurred in May 2013 on eBay. It was relisted at just shy of $30K, and as I understood it, it was a formality of having a record of the listing through eBay, as they had a buyer in the wing.

It is on ITV East Midlands news at 6 :)

Decent report. Just the two mistakes (The auction was yesterday not today and their were 75 lots not 35) One of the presenters also showed his sons small collection of Vintage beaters which was a nice touch!

Well done Craig. Its nice to see someone using the proceeds to buy a house. I think Gary is planning on buying Buckingham Palace should his day ever come :)

Congrats :D

Blimey Senior Chubb sent the my other half a text to tell me about this thinking I didn't know about it

He then amazed me by telling me he had an unopened Walrus Man he had been keeping for 30 years, almost got me going

I'm going to open an auction house - just paid Vectis for my lot @ hammer + 25%... I'm sure whoever won the Tri Weequay will be thrilled to bits.

Happy Friday everyone!

PaliToy was what Kenner released them as in the UK probably. I had quite a few as a kid. I was normal though, Mine were ripped straight from the packets and played with.

I sold some for my son a few years ago along with a few of the huge models, AtAt etc. None of them had been played with but they had been opened and put on display. I still have some left, I'll have to take a look and put them on eBay if they are popular again.

In a few decades all these curios from the past will just be worthless junk, as popular culture will have moved on. Think hard before shelling out good money on anything that isn't a genuine antique or has intrinsic value. Why do you think he's selling? - He's not as stupid as his haircut might suggest!

But there are some very sad people who replicate the original packaging so you can put the loose figure inside, glue it up and then pretend you have the real thing. Bonkers.

Loose figures, £1-£5 depending on condition (not including p&p). Last 16, £20+. Might get more for the ships if they're in good nick or boxed.

Thats thecway it goes. Lucky man well done . I woukd rather have £18000 than an unopened and unplayed with Boba Fett. Hopefully the buyer will enjoy it

You can pick up a mint on card Boba Fett from 1980 for a few hundred. The reason this one is so valuable is that it's on a Palitoy card. Palitoy cards were only sold in the UK and in smaller numbers than the US.

Such things were made to be used. I'm a believer in buying something designed for a purpose, not simply being put in a cabinet to be looked at. Same goes for the idea of buying a super-car only to put it in a garage so it can be sold years later for more money.

Soon I'll be putting my original Star Wars light saber up for auction. It consists of a fairly straight stick I found in the woods, covered in aluminum foil. My brother and I made them the afternoon we saw the movie, back in '77. We then spent the next month or so beating each other senseless with them. Shall we start the bidding at $10,000...?

I have a very thick skin and tend to stay above people's comments. I'm obviously very pleased with the auction. The second half promises to be highly profitable, as it concentrates on 30 backs. I'll post the full list soon.

Thanks for all of the support everyone. It all happens again next month!
