Palitoy 12 bacls

I noticed the red V, but that doesn't indicate anything to me other than a printing error or someone has drawn on it.

From close up how does the V look to have gotten on the card?

As PalitoyJunky says, at times you can get lucky. If the eBay aution is one that I remember, there were several lukes that appeared over a very short period of time. If it's any consolation, I got one on eBay for under £300!! 8) Getting one cheaper than others (and £750 is a lot of money for a reseal of a carded figure, even like Luke) is not an automatic reason to assume it is resealed. If that's your only basis for worrying, then to me it doesn't seem like enough of a reason.

The main thing that would concern me is the look of the seal around the bubble edge. Does is look the same as your other figures or are there areas that seem to have heavy areas of glue. Any noticeable raised areas or possible splits on the actual card around the bubble, or down the edge of the card on the left of the bubble. or inside the bubble on the left side?

Bubble are often ripped of the card so will cause noticeable damage. Experts may have carefully slit down the side of the bubble to get the figure out causing minimal damage...though this is usually something people do to swap figures, for example putting a rarer version of a figure in a card and then resealing it.

No there's nothing like that - like I said I was 95% certain of it's authenticity just wanted to make sure - there may have been some dastardly way of resealing cards which I wasn't aware of.
The Red V does look like a printing error and has been confirmed really by 'Palifan' having one too.
Be interested to hear if any other folk have the rarest($$$$$$$) carded figure going - the 'Red V' Luke :D
Shame about the top stress line, how many marks do you think that will knock off? The bubble does not lose it's shape in this area so it's not too much of a problem for me.

I know for most collectors it's all about condition and the white stress mark would cause a slight problem and bring the grading down a bit. That said though it's in a fairly good place and doesn't really notice from the front and I've seen 12 back Palitoy Luke's go for over 1K where the card has been folded over causing a bad crease through the middle of it. I get the feeling that if you put this to auction on ebay it would do very well and get over 1 and a half thousand (just my opinion). I there are still quite a few collections out there missing this one.

As for this whole red V thing, I noticed it on the card I attached my bubble to and though it was red felt tip that someone had drawn on once they'd taken the original bubble off of. It was a shame to see as I spent ages looking for a perfect card to match my bubble up with. After seeing Kingshearer's I now know it's a printing error from one of the many 12 B runs they must have done as it's the same shape, colour and in the same place as on my card.

As for my final comment about the lightsaber, this is just something I've noticed with every Luke back I've ever seen. I'll be interested to hear what Palitoyjunky finds out by looking at his A back and his mates B back. The only reason this really interests me is that I'm still wondering if certain types (versions), of weapons were shipped with the first 12/20 Palitoy figures. We must have had only so many assembled here of that first run so maybe only so many were sent over from the US to be packed. I do remember my local toy shop running out of them and not getting any more back in until the Empire run.

I really don't mean to offend anyone out there and I'm only passing on my findings in a hope that it will all add to the history of these pieces. I'm sure there are always exceptions but I think it's a good thing to document any information and then see what sticks.

As the old dears say in the Antiques Roadshow 'How much??? but it's been in the family for years and I would never consider selling it'
I'm pleased your happy with your card too.

I think you should be happy with that card and the price you paid for it.

What's next for your collection?

Missing palitoy cards - I just have the 9 12 backs and a 20 back Snaggletooth which I'm a but dubious about since the card has lots of flecks on it which could be printing or a fake I'll put a picture of that up soon.
Also have an ESB palitoy logo'd R2D2 sensorscope.
Might look to buy an Imperial shuttle too after seeing your impressive Armada!

You want a shuttle, let me know

Most of the 20 backs should be reasonably ok. Quite a few have been ebay recently

Did anyone here take part in that telephone auction? it must have been about 12 years ago, be interested to learn who got what, this is mine;

Leia £420
Jawa £260

Was that telephone auction organised by Jason Joiner of 'Off World'??
I rem that he did do one and it must have been around 12 years ago too! I rem he had all 20 figures on display at the Sunday Cheshunt fair. But I rem him saying that he was expecting around 2.5K for the Luke, and I am sure it went for 2.2K in the end. I also rem the Luke wasn't mint, it had a card crease, was v nice though!
I bid on the Hammerhead but lost it, think that went for £180 in the end.

at that time the set went for a record price , it was a nice collection and we had so many people wanted to buy them we felt it was best for us and to give all the collectors a fare chance to auction them off in this way .

it made a lot of people happy and some completed there sets.
