Other Vintage Collections

Hi all,

It's been a while since I posted something vintage here so here's a small collection that I've been slowly putting together.

These are Tomland Starroid raiders/Space raiders/Space Fighter/Space people (oh they just love their name changes!), released from 1977-1982.

They stand at roughly 4" with soft rubber heads on the same generic body shape that are different colours and have different stickers. These figures came in glow and non go versions depending on their release date and also with and without weapons and belts. There are a total of 19 characters with many variations and came original carded.

I don't have any carded examples although I only really went for a loose collection and finding these with good quality stickers and weapons has been a fair challenge but I'm happy with what I have to date. They're not overly expensive for the most part and I do like the slight cheapness about them although I've noticed that quite a few come up for sell with the neck part on the body damaged probably due to them being so cheaply made.

Hope you enjoy seeing them and I'm happy taking my time and picking them up every now and then so it's been a fun journey. I also love the more than passing resemblance of a couple of them to Star Wars figures so you can see what they were trying to cash in on at the time they were released.

One last thing is that they also made many versions of these figures with different names in an 8" scale, probably to compete with the Mego market. I haven't chosen to go after any of those as they are more expensive and don't quite hold the same appeal to me but some of them are quite something to look at.

If you are interested in reading any more about them I found this site to be really helpful and do let me know if you have any knocking about you might want to let go of.

Nice display, Ian. I've not seen those figures before, but they're interesting and a little bit different, so I can see why you like them.

Thanks for sharing :)

Great collection Ian. I've a soft spot for Star Raiders as a friend gave me a couple as a kid. Somehow they managed to survive me selling off all my toys back in the day

A lucky save I say :D

I remember that freebie figure from getting one in Kellogg's cornflakes, used to love that, crazy how such a tiny little thing can have so much nostalgia.

Very pleased to add this one to my collection after a 2+ year hunt. Kinda shocking how this was as good as it got for handheld gaming until the Gameboy arrived.

Thanks, it is amazing how hours were spent on these as a kid, yet if we played one today it's good enough for 5 mins until we're done haha.

Nice figure and card, bubble nice and clear too, I always love seeing a bit of MOTU. That will be a nice reseal, iv'e been doing the same with resealing Battlecat and Panthor, I have my Panthor reseal finished now so look out for my post this week. :)

It's also incredible how difficult it is to even find a spare card and bubble these days.

Look forward to seeing those Richard.

Also have boxed battlecat and loose Panthor boxed Castle Grayskull

Need to complete with a Skeletor & tidy up He Man then done on that

Just working on some Thundercats reseals with the lad

Have Liono Moc to tidy up and Mummra Moc to tidy up ( have Slithe reseal Moc as well) and all main character cardbacks.

Lot to do, but no time

I'd love a boxed Castle Greyskull, the box artwork is amazing too, but space is the main thing for me so it might be something i'll think about getting later on. Yes it is a never ending task when it comes to acquiring bits & pieces to complete toys for a collection but a fun one, iv'e unexpectedly found it more rewarding lately to complete and reseal toys than just buying a perfect one in a single purchase. :)

I do love the look of Thundercats toys, wasn't my thing as a kid but now i'm older it just screams 80's vintage to me.

Yes the castle is a big piece but impressive, love the thundercats though

Ahh I remember that Thundertank, I think one of my mates had one, I was always fascinated with Lion-o's little sword as well.

Real nice Greyskull, endless hours of fun that was, used to love all the little extras inside and the laser cannon and drawbridge, great times.

Thanks for sharing. :)

Finally got this cased up as the case arrived from UKG this afternoon, only took a month  but it was worth the wait.

Iv'e recently resealed this myself, I had to source a 2nd box to get the red card insert from it to put into this one, now it looks brand new. The Panthor toy is unplayed with, not a single mark on it, looks stunning, it also looks a bit black though because my camera doesn't like purple.

Another couple of small additions are these mini-comics from MOC's, these are the only two I actually remember from my childhood and are quite nostalgic for me. 'Rock People To The Rescue' came packaged with Stonedar or Rokkon, and 'Slave City' with Orko.

That looks awesom bud, the artwork on the MOTU is just droolworthy love it. Looks brilliant in acrylic mate.

Ha ha I oredered and paid for a couple of acrylic cases from UKG on 1 st October and no sign of anything since
The comics are ace as well

Thanks, yes definitely, I never get bored of looking at the artwork, definitely my favourite out of any toy franchise.

Yeah UKG told me it could be sooner than 20 - 25 day turnaround but ended up waiting about 33 days, it must be a busier time of year for them.

Loving all the He-Man/Thundercats love on here guys. I never had any of these toys growing up although I did watch the series for both on returning home from school. These figures are very iconic and it's nice to see them posted up on here.

I was given this book a while ago which is a great read and has all that awesome artwork from the packaging in it as well as a very thorough history of all things He-Man. https://www.amazon.co.uk/Art-He-Man-Masters-Universe-Various/dp/1616555920/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1540628207&sr=8-4&keywords=he+man+book

There are also a few other nice looking books out there on this franchise but this one was a good overview for me.
