Indeed - they take about 4%

You can sell an item for 0.99p and charge exact postage i.e. £4.30 and by the time the fees come off you're left with next to nothing (eBay - 0.53p and PayPal 0.21p + 0.20p = 0.95)

Blimey I didn't realise it had got that bad!
All the more reason for sales on here and at FF!

In my ebay descriptions i say how much postage @ cost is. I also then say i add 10% on to that amount as ebay take 10%. Followed by if you dont like post charges dont bid. I always use recycled packaging to keep costs down for buyers.

When you put an example like that it's pointless selling anything of little to no value on Ebay then.

eBay are very clever, because they double dip with the fees but only take the PayPal money first, you don't actually realise how little you make - of course everyone expects to earn more than 0.99p for their listings but even so they take a huge percentage of takings from any sale under £10.00

Spot on Iain. Therefore their move to 20 listings a month will hit them because there are loads lot small sellers which make them money (although I was told by a guy who had a meeting with them (about 7 years ago) that they wanted to get all the small sellers off eBay).

Still waiting on the CB, he took my last comment on the chin and replied with out getting abusive (prob realised he was heading down the road for a neg), I'll wait to reveive the CB before deciding on the feedback.

As for ebay the are just pure evil scum  I've cut back on my selling as I find it sickening what they charge in fees and I don't want them to have my money, the postage % was the final straw :x I know it's difficult for many sellers as ebay offers the biggest market and there is no alternative that can match that. I was considering signing up with ebid but don't sell enough to really justify it.

****ing bastards

Got my cardbacks on Saturday and he did indeed pay £2.80 per item sent (thieving royal mail barstewards :o ). If the seller hadn't been so much of a tool I may have considered sending him a little extra towards the postage but sod him :D
