Olympics

Many schools here have 50m pools.
I love watching sport from my couch- I can't wait.

Nope.

Loads of 25m pools, there MAY be one down south now (I need one of our Irish members to confirm/deny this) but none in my country.
Now you see why I'm not so chuffed about all the sports grants going to Laaaandan!

I stand corrected, Ireland (the South) has 2, one in Dublin, one in Limerick.
Up north, we have none. You Aussies, have just the 47!

And people wonder why we (Northern Ireland) only win medals in boxing and shooting!

I just don't understand why people aren't proud as a nation anymore - all we want to do is knock this country - I just don't get it. My missus is from Colombia and some of the stories she tells me about how that country is run are unbelievable. She can't get over the fact that we give money to people that can't work, how we have a Health Service that is free for everyone and that our Police don't take money to let you off.

We are very lucky to live in a country like this - and that is why thousands of people desperately try to get here !

Cheer up boys, check this beauty out.
I'm sure you'd all be glued to the Olympics if there was more stuff of this quality...

Sadly "she" failed a drugs test. I would have worried more about her failing a gender test!

Wow, i go to the gym for a couple of hours, get back and it's got a bit busy!

Weasel, if you want a 50m swimming pool, do 2 lengths, it's almost the same thing

The Polish workers tend to get hired, because of 2 things; They don't turn down work (even if the wages aren't much above the minimum wage) and they turn up on time. Two very important attributes.

There will be a lot of people jumping on the hating band wagon, a lot of sceptics. As a society we rarely compliment, just bitch and complain. Not really "Great Britain", more like "Ok Britain"

Maybe there were additional reasons why the astro turf bid was turned down, maybe it was easy, cool and controversial to blame the Olympics.

Like i said at the beginning, the aim of this thread shouldn't be political. It appears though, that the subject does bring mixed feelings, feelings which i do appreciate. Even though deep down, i know you are wrong.

Even the weather is looking like its gonna get better

I don't think for a minute that we will be in profit from this financially, but some things are more valuable than cash.
If we do this well, and i believe that we can it would raise our Global profile in a good way, and maybe we could get a few countries on side. Who knows, we may even do better in the Eurovision song contest next year!

Lol, I haven't been swimming in years. It's more the principle that NI doesn't have a single 50m pool yet the Gov sees fit to build another one in London.

Nope. From the horses mouth, 'the money has all gone to London'. No astro pitches built over here using sports funding in the last 6 years. The few that have gone down have been done with local Council and Education & Library board support.

My view is that as London will derive 99.9% of the "benefits" of the games, why should those of us outside the South East have to effectively fund it!? We get to help pay for it but will see none of the "benefits".
Imagine it the other way round. If for the next 6 years the Gov said they weren't going to fund any sports projects in London in favour of the rest of the country. The red tops and the Daily Mail* would have a field day!

* Although, obviously they would blame Gypsys and immigrants!

Fair enough mate.

Bloody government!

I am looking forward to it though. With the lack of swimming pools and sports facilitys around here, it's the only thing i've got to look forward to!

Did anybody else hear on the news the other day that the muppet at the top of security firm G4S that has totally ****ed up the security for the Olympics still wants to claim the managment fee, which is a staggering £67million.

Hadn't heard that, but given the **** up they have made of it so far I suspect public opinion will prevent that from happening, or if it doesn't the Gov will change the rules and reclaim or not pay part of the contract.
Absolute farce the whole G4S thing, and I don't blame the Gov for this one.

Got stuck in traffic the other day going from Ilford to East Ham became a 45 min journey...

My Olympic spirit has been slightly dampened

Still can't wait though :D :D :D :D

I've been off the boards for a few days because of a family emergency, but I managed to watch the opening celebrations....,
Hello world, The Games are being held in GREAT Britain, and by the way, we have a lot to celebrate.
Mitt Romney, you are a f##king up your own ass, never gonna amount to **** utter utter out of touch international social retard. How ****ing dare you doubt my country, you f##king wannabe president.

Anyway, as I said in my first post, I dont want this to get political, so I'll get back on track and forget about that Romney pleb...

Rise Sir Danny, that was one hell of a show. Didn't really need Paul McCartney as he is a bit of a has been, but it was bloody brilliant.
Good on the Queen, she was fantastic and a brilliant sport for doing that.

Great Britain should be proud. Rio, you have a lot to live up to!
