Hi, can't believe I've only just discovered this site, It's great....

Anyway help/advice would be much apreciated here, I've not long finished collecting the original vintage set of figures (going to save most of the last 17 untill the cash is avalible) all loose and in good condition and only a couple with reproduction accessories (such as my Jawa cape).

I thought i may go on the search for some varients, most likely on E-Bay, I have a some on my list-

Cloth cape jawa (have fake vinyl)
Small head Han (have big)
Solid top R2 (have one with scope)
Metalic IG-88 (have grey)
Ugnaught purple cape (have blue)
Luke farmbaoy and Bespin hair colour variants...

I'm going to maybe limit myself to one a month and a budget of about Ã'£20-Ã'£25.

Any sugestions on any more that may be 'not impossible' to find.

Cheers.

Hi there,

there are plenty to choose from, infact youcould get lost in forever collecting variants.

I've kept to mostly production changes like large head/ small head Han and colour changes, like Lukes hair colour, lando with teeth/ without. This was only from the perspective of what looked good on display to me (although nothing is on display at the mo), although many others I know have huuuuuuuge shelf space for one figure and every variation of it as a result.

It's a question of how far do you want to go?

Dave.

Welcome to the forum! 8)

As Dave says, there are literally thousands of variants. Depending on what you consider a true variant.

Gustie will take you under his wing and tell you all about the 6 million and one variants he knows about!
There are a few other variant collectors on here, who I'm sure will give you a bit fo advice about prices and availability etc.

Thanks so far, it will be just the 'obviously visible' variations i'll be be aiming for as my collection is display first and investment second, I don't really want to be aiming for more than say 3 of any one figure (ie- blond, orange and brown hair Lukes. Vinyl cape, cloth cape big/small hood Jawa).

Just wait till Gustie tells you all about his Coo markings and eyes right/ eyes left etc etc etc!

Not a variant collector myself (as you might have guessed) but I'd say the obvious ones your talking about are probably what you want especially if you just want to display.
The Coo markings etc do require pretty close examination of a figure, but then variant people are all a bit...............ehhh different!

Hiya mate, how did you find us?

Wasnt through ebay was it?

Hi, I was looking for 'custom vintage star wars figures' on google and found my way here, got a few spare figures which wouldnt be worth selling so thought I'd adapt a couple (hence my K-3PO thread).

Thank you all for the kind welcome...

Gustie, meet your young apprentice!

(I mean O1AB, not me. Just in case you variant people try and convert me!)

Jabba.... '01AB' was the name I gave myself when I used to make bad abstract techno music at uni, I sort of decided it could have been the name given to the first ever Star Wars droid/God of droids, I used to lay drum & bass loops and casio power chords over SW samples and play to the drugged up reminants of small South London house parties....

And no way will I ever aim at collecting hundreds of variations, I like to think 20 max will be sufficient, I dont want to polute my existing set, I decided a year ago I'd never collect ships etc and have stuck to that (so far!) and I'm also avoiding cardbacks and AFAs, just sticking to good quality loose figures with original weapons etc and a few home made customs...

We got loads of different focus's on here. That's half the attraction, seeing what other people have collected. It would be pretty dull if we all collected the same thing, as well as pretty expensive.

i started collecting variants but after i had bought 10-12 hammerhead variants and could not really tell the differences when they were displayed!!

I sold all my variants but kept the more unique ones as part of my original collection. ie eyes right hamm head, green bag chewy, silver ig88, camo lapel han solo etc
