My treasuered AT AT Walker custom paint

I quite like it because it's creative and it's well painted. It's Star Wars art! I've seen full size helmets and other stuff painted with crazy designs. Why not? In terms of this paint job I like the weathering and battle damage but I don't really like the metal/iron looking colour. It would appeal to me more if it was accurate in colour and painted to look exactly like the models used in the film. That would be impressive. In terms of ruining a vintage toy I don't think it matters as long as it was well used/played with. Collectors wouldn't want it anyway. It's not exactly rare is it.

I agree. It's been done very well and looks the part.

He's hardly taken one out of a fresh box and painted it up, so don't see the beef. It's bound to be a beater AT AT.

No different than the custom figures which there are loads swapping hands on the forums.

More newby bashing? :)

If Bram or Iain etc had put this on you'd all be applauding. :D

You bitch :!:

Thanks Chiffy... I see you got my back.

Bram bashing?! I would've given it a price!!

P.S I quite like it, but no for me...

I don't like it you can by a new one that looks like that, without the pipes. :? Appreciate the work that's gone into it but don't expect the hard hours to pay off. If it got AFA rated everyone would be saying it looks crap.

Out of all the things bad coming out of this hobby as of late......this is not so bad. hats-off to the guy. He just needs to say what he actually wants for it.

My friend did a similar thing to go in his shop under his till. He spent about a month doing it. I was like what have you done to that. Then he whent to put it in his desk sort of babinet thing and it didn't fit.   I like the vintage AT-AT's as there are but I guess there's enough for people to mess around with.

Just like the real thing! You took a lot of effort creating this custom. Look's nice, this metalic coating

Guys,

I think some are being a little harsh. I repainted a complete vintage Snowspeeder a while back and most here liked it. I think the paintjob on this is great, although the colour scheme is a bit rich. These toys can be an excellent substitue for a £1500 master replicas At-At and i painted a vintage snowspeeder because i wasnt dropping £500 plus on a MR.

People customise vintage figures every day of the week, and this is no different.Heads pulled off, limbs swapped etc.

I just think others would have possibly benefitted from the parts of a beater walker than this.

Just my opinion

So What is a beater walker to you? Just out of interest...

Stripping parts still takes one more out of the remaining ones anyway, so i dont get it???

Customising doesnt destroy the hobby and has been done for years. Todd does some good customs and ive done a few myself. Another thing to note is that modern ATATs are overpriced anyway, thus leaving people to use a beater walker-although i would in no way call this painted one a beater.

Well said! Like it or not, it's each to their own but customisation is just another part of the hobby. There's two ways to approach painting a toy, you can try and make it "accurate" to the film i.e turning it from a toy into a model which is what you and I are talking about, or you can do something completely different and artistic with it. This one is the latter.

If people want to get creative with their own stuff I think it's great. I do also agree with many of the others though if you paint a vintage toy that's in perfectly good condition and it looks **** it would surely be better to have been left alone

I don't agree with changing pure vintage star wars toys at all. The more I think about it the more I don't like it. But each to there own I'm not going to judge a new member on the basis of painting a vintage AT-AT. :)

PS Still looks like a modern one to me.

Meh, no one even knew about this until he put it up for sale so it's not like it was considered 'lost' beforehand. I don't have a problem with anyone doing whatever they want with something they own, if they own it then it theirs and they can do whatever they want with it.

Yeah so if you own two MOC VC Jawa's it's ok to get one U graded? What your saying is right to an extent but it's also about having the right value's in collecting and life in general.

On the other hand, hundreds of vehicles have been stripped for spares, so its a two way street.

I don't think you can quite compare a custom painted AT-AT to a U grade VCJ. I do get the sentiment and I totally agree that people should make sure the things they do in this hobby aren't having a negative impact but at the same time some things just aren't as damaging in the long run as others.

U grading is a totally different beast to customising, it's completely destructive whereas customising is actually quite the opposite.

This is exactly what this forum is all about, IMO

Debate, differing opinions, expert knowledge, this all gives an opportunity to digest the information and make an informed decision.

I don't think anyone on here would take mocs, mintys or anything and customise.

As Todd pointed out, beaters etc are fine, and some custom work that is done is awesome :D

BTW I have a lando general no cloak or weapons but missing a thumb....( I didn't notice when I picked him up for £4  ) yours if you want him Todd :D
