Hello to all!
i never new there was such a great little site like this until i found it a few days ago and ive been very impressed with the amount of figure knowledge of you regulars on here, anyway....

As its my first post i thought we could talk about where it all began and what memories you have from the days when the figures and playsets were in the shops at the time of the films being released.
i was very fortunate to just catch return of the jedi when it came out as i was 5yrs old at the time and after that i had caught the bug for it, the first two figures i bought with my pocket money were leia boushh and chief chirpa (not exactly rareties but at the time what mattered more to me was the more accessories the figure had, the better!)

Shortly after that i was given a bag of old toys from my older brothers mate, inside was yoda, small head han solo, chewbacca, darth vader and obi wan kenobi (all without weapons), nice!

So my figure collecting had just begun, i went on to pick up from a few cornershops and a model shop which were klaatu, weequay, logray, squid head and prune face.

My parents bought me for xmas that year jabba the hutt playset, ewok glider and catapolt, speeder bike and two mini rigs which were the small isp shuttle and that weird tool box thing with spanners in for chewbacca, (plus a load of other figures including transformers and he-man) anyway i was thrilled to bits and through jabba i would find a small catalogue that showed that there was a whole lot more to get!

"but still no sign of power of the force stuff?"

i gradually picked more and more stuff up at car boots mostly all loose missing bits but i didnt care that much at the time, these included a yellow looking millenium falcon(from a smokers home no doubt) dagobah playset, a battle damamaged x-wing and a whole bunch of run of the mill figures + a lando general, sweet!

Me and my dad were in a big sweetshop not far from where i live in harrow and up on a high shelf was a rebel transport, it had a big sticker with the price on it £70! i begged and cried my dad for it but he wouldnt budge "no no no im not paying that for that bit of plastic!"

After that my collecting of star wars figures went quiet, i never ever saw any power of the force figures, even the big stores in london like hamleys i dont remember seeing them for sale?

it all got shoved in the loft for a long time collecting dust and about two years ago i got it all down and ive begun collecting again.......

so lets hear some of your star wars figure memories?

also do you remember seeing much power of the force figures in the shops?

were there any figures or playsets that at the time that you remember seeing but you didnt buy and your now kicking yourself for not? (like a yakface)

cheers!

Welcome to the forum :D

The Power of the Force figs were issued in the US, Canada and Oz but not here. We had those figures on Tri-logo cardbacks. There were a few POTF playsets and vehicles released athough they were fairly hard to find even back then.

oh right, no wonder, thanks for clearing that up for me.

no wonder i never remember seeing any, i bet the only place that sold power of the force stuff back then wouldve been the forbidden planet in london, there always getting american imports.

cheers!

Welcome on board, hope you stick around! 8)

Don't actually have many memories of getting figures or vehicles as kid, just of playing with them. I do remember being in Dublin on a family holiday once and seeing loads of figures I'd never seen before in some toy shop, and also I remember the huge displays there used to be in "Leisure world" in Belfast and Lisburn.

Other than that my memories are only of playing with (and breaking/losing) the various toys/vehicles I had.

Am the same as you weasel. I can remember seeing the return of the jedi figures in shops. And playing with my older brothers toys

I remember shoving a firecracker up Landos arse and watching his legs explode! Most fun at 9 years old blowing up figures you hated!!!!!! :p  :p ....Welcome to the forum!!!!!!!

How could you of hated Lando :D

Ihave great memories of star wars when I was a kid. Saw ROTJ at the cinema and had a great collection of toys. Basic stuff like rebel transporter and the falcon. Always wanted an imperial shuttle, but never ever saw one, not even in shops.

On holiday on the Isle Of Wight I had my appendix taken out and luckily as well as my parents being on holiday so were the grandparents. Every day they would turn up with new figures. I dragged that hospital stay out as long as possible to get more figures. Buried so many figures in the garden but then it all ended at the dreaded car boot where the whole collection went for silly money. It's great to be back collecting again, just hope my kids don't sell it all at a car boot in the future :)

Welcome to the forum Pizza, that was a long first post fella!!!!

the only thing i can remember as a kid getting was a rebo band, it was on the top shelf of our local newsagents for AGES and i would see it every time we went in there,

after probably alot of nagging i got it for birthday or chrimbo cant remember which!

also one of the last items i got was an ewok village and endor ranger

again i didnt even see any POTF stuff and only recently fouind out any vehicles where made.

i remember having an amamaman off a tri card and a yak

welcome to the boards pizza

My earliest SW memory is going to see ESB in the west end when i was 7. I remember getting a a DV TIE, an INT 4 and a few figures over the years. But I'd grown out of toys by the time the last 17 were released, and I never knew they, or the POTF ships, existed until recently

Thanks for the lovely warm welcome lads, i feel a part of the family already!

that was a bit of a long post for a first timer, i'll try not to jabba on too much in future.

i suppose i better post a bit more about myself on on the "who's who intoduce yourself" thread.

cheers!

Great post.
My first figure was a 12 back Darth Vader (I can still remember looking at the back of the card and thinking what one I was going to get next). Must've been about '78 or '79. The figure I remember getting the most worked up over was either Yoda or Bespin Luke. My Dad thought it was daft paying that much money for a little piece of plastic the size of Yoda, but what he couldn't see was all the great stuff he came with! Judge him by his size, do you? Hmmmm? Those are still two of my favourites.

October '79 I got the Millennium Falcon for my birthday. It was so expensive that my Dad had to put a deposit on it. But Jesus, I was so ****ing excited when I got that box.

The POTF figures (or tri-logo last 17 to be pedantic) never made it south of the border. I think at that stage the line was pretty much dead. My sister was able to pick up nearly all of them (bar General Lando, Stormtrooper Luke, Endor Luke, Carbonite Han and R2-D2) up north in either Derry or Belfast. They were the tri-logo cardbacks with the MASSIVE "new figure £1.59" stickers on the front. That would have been Christmas '85? And they were the last figures I got. By the way, my Yakface came without any accessories, so that's the way I've kept him. I still have him, Amanaman, EV-9D9 and Barada, all in great condition, but the rest have gone. Christ, I'd spend £1.59 on getting them back now!

he's a yank burnsy...... never heard of rodney king :D :D

Jay.........I had nothing to do with that incident, Also had nothing to do with the O.J. Simpson thing, I just found Lando to be as usefull as Lobot....That why I tortured the two and Finally blew them to bits.

haha!.................i couldnt agree more! lobot and nadine have gotta be in my boring figures list.

I hated Ugnaught, a pig in a frock with a doctors briefcase!! Crap figure.

My favourite fig was Gameroean guard. I loved that figure and wanted loads of them to build a little army.

I remember getting Nien Nunb and the emperor through in the in post from the mailaway and was so excited as my mates didn't have those figures.
