MOC 12BK Chewbacca on ebay now!

Right now I'm very glad she never gave it to me!

I had one of my own already. No idea where that is now but it was properly played with, probably up a tree somewhere! This must have been a spare. She was a very kind lady and bought loads of toys for her grandkids to play with at her house. I can only imagine she forgot all about these!

You know what, even at this sort of money I'll be sad to see him go. What a little legend! I have the big 12" Chewie too but this little guy would kick his ass!

Really scared to touch it now though. I might need some of those snooker ref gloves or something. Good grief.

Much appreciate the advice from members here. What a great site. I'm guessing you all want me to let the auction run right?

Oh Lord my reserve was £400.

All I can say is that the piece is absolutely as described. I can guarantee 100% authenticity. I've looked after it myself for 20 years.

I've since been told the last time a MOC 12 back Chewie came up was around 4 years ago and the auction was finished early.

wahhhhhhhhhhh your getting some serious mulan there! hope the winner comes through for you, i dufteft my cap too you, that is is awesome piece in exceptional condition too, good luck with the sale dr.

It's entirely up to you what you do but the fees will be incredible when this finishes! Have you had any messages on ebay from people asking to sell it early?!

Whatever you do... make sure it's fully insured and has tracking when you post it!

Yes I've had offers just this morning.

It's turning into a game of Deal or No Deal!

To be honest the value is already beyond my wildest expectations and with other pieces to sell I don't want to come across as mercenary. It's got to the point where it's not just about money anymore, I want Chewie to find the best possible home and ideally complete a very special collection.

My gut on something like this is to let the auction run - fees will be a bitch - but this will be an all out bidding war and people will be topping up right to the last second

There was a set of 3packs found in an Estate Sale listed on Ebay.com last month - they ended up going for crazy prices as bids just kept coming in

Yes I agree with Iain If I remember rightly they went for $28,600 ish

So I would let it Run as you say this is the first time one has come up FS like this in 4 years

I think those three packs went for a good price. In fact a couple of three pack collectors seem to think they went cheap. I think my initial judgement of the end price at the time was skewed a little by what I paid for one or two of my sets. graded examples of the sets in that auction have sold for $20,000 alone. Now thats crazy prices!

Agree with Iain, let it run it's course, it will give everyone an idea on how many collectors need that piece and how much they are willing to pay for it. I reckon around 3K and remember guys this example isn't graded, so christ knows what it would fetch if graded :?: :?:  :?: :?:

Good luck with your sale, it's really nice to see genuine untouched pieces like this that have been locked away for years come up for sale eventually. They do deserve good homes, which I'm sure they will end up in. Also starting the prices off fairly low always attracts interest and creates a bidding war.

EDIT - 3k bit conservative I'll go for £4750 :p

What a fantastic story! I love the fact that your nan bought it back in the day and passed it on to you. i bet she had no idea how much that was going to fetch!!!!!!!!! she will be buzzin knowing how much she has helped you financially. Nice one. my final guess would be 4,995.

She paid 99p for it.

I hope whoever ends up with it keeps the price sticker on it. I think it's deadly. And it's on the back too.

Question for the group. I'm taking an interest in why the interested parties want the figure. Mainly because I'd love to see it complete a collection. Is there such a thing as a complete 12 back collection of exclusively Palitoy figures? Or is that just unrealistic? It seems that condition is king among collectors and fastidiousness knows no bounds. Does that mean that a top 12 Back collection would likely be made up of kenner, palitoy, you name it as long as the condition is good?

thanks again for all the help. great forum.

Check the vintage showcase.

You'll find a couple of complete sets

In fact, here's one I found earlier!

A complete set of 12 back Palitoy's is realistic, Chewie is just harder to find than the rest. Some collectors do have this set wrapped up already and try for greater challenges.

Completing a run of Kenner 12 backs is easy in comparison to Palitoys, but then you have the Harberts etc.

Try getting a 12 back set of Italian Harberts, French Meccano's , Japanese Takara's - none of these are unrealistic but would IMO take almost a lifetime to track certain card backs down and you can;t be fussy over condition either. They tend not to be as popular with collectors (just as well as there aren't many to go round) as the Palitoy's but are far harder to track down.

Good grief that's quite a sight!

It helps to understand the value of what I have to see that it's a fifth of that collection!

The set of the first 20 Palitoy cards are awesome. By far my favourite set.

The Chewie you have, along with the Luke is a highly sort after piece. I wouldn't say it is mega rare though admittedly it is not one that comes up for sale on eBay often, in fact that's the first one I have ever seen for sale on there.

There are many people trying to put together the 12 back set and Chewie appears to be the toughest one to find at the moment. Years ago it was luke, but they seem to have switched.

There are countless figures amonst Palitoy alone that are far tougher than chewie. Try putting together the first 20 ESB character for example.

I'm shocked at how much that chewie is going for. It's hard to put a value on anything as generally things are worth as much as someone is willing to pay. Though a lot are after it normally people don't always have that much disposable income for a bidding war to get that much higher than what they were generally valued at, which was around the £1-1.5k mark. Clearly there are a number of collectors who have been saving hard in the hopes that one will turn up and are going full out on it.

Good on them for getting the piece they want

And good on you for being in this position, great way to remember your nan. :)

The last time a 12 Pali Chewie was listed on eBay was early 2009. In fact there were 2 listed within a very short time of each other!! You know the old saying 'It don't rain it pours'! Anyway both were mint, one was ungraded and the other was AFA Tri 85! The ungraded example was actually the better of the 2 as the graded example had the 'Y' grade ie it had a tinged bubble. The graded example was a BIN 2K & sold off eBay for around £1800 I believe. I was lucky enough to end up with the other example :D

I think around the 2K mark for a mint Chewie has been the accepted price for a fair little while now, but as Gary says, relatively one only pays what one wants to.
As I already said, the bottom line is that Chewie is well hot because many need him to complete their set and it is extremely rare to find him for sale esp publicly as many really tough Palitoy pieces are sold or traded privately amongst collectors.

We are all looking forward to the end of this auction!
Well done Nan

Thought I'd join the Palitoy love in....

Complete set of 21 (with large head han) with straight 85's clear bubble chewie.......
