Mash & Red Sauce (dedicated to Mike Sith)

No! Nonsense  It's all good

I've heard of people putting a pie in a bowl of tomato soup. Um .. :?

Never actually tried a Pie Floater, quite happy to die wondering to be honest.

You can only get them in South Australia but they are a little odd over there.

Traditionally? Typical fair. Very heavily influenced by our English roots so Sunday Roasts, Sausages and Mash, Lamb cutlets, Meat pies and Fish and Chips would be the type of food considered traditional.

In recent years tastes have turn to more international flavours with more immigrants coming from different parts of the world and bringing their traditional foods.

1970's Australia the most adventurous people got was Chinese and Italian which was heavily altered to appease western tastes, these days there's a huge variety on offer and Melbourne in particular has a great culture of different foods from around the world. Authentic Vietnamese, Indian, Thai, Lebanese, Turkish, Greek, Italian, French and more all on offer.

Aussies are finally starting to realise we are spoilt when it comes to fresh produce like Seafood, Beef and Lamb. Kangaroo and Crocodile are also becoming regular dishes in Restaurants.

We used to live in an area with a large Vietnamese and Chinese community which was awesome when it came to choice of eating out, we moved about two years ago to the outskirts of Melb where the choice of restaurants and takeaway joints is severely lacking. Oh well back to Fish and Chips and soggy fake Pizzas.

I guess if you had to say if their was a style of food that would mostly sum us up it would be cooking the **** out of everything on a BBQ, as soon a summer arrives the smell of BBQ's in the air is ever present.

My impression is that Australia is the land of BBQ. You have the weather for it alright.

By far the worst cuisine ever has to be German. The worst thing i've ever eaten - 'curry-wurst' Had it in Berlin. Should have taken a photo. Two massive sausages in what was basically red sauce with curry powder sprinkled on. Awful.

All German food i've tried is ****ing weird.

I am a proud Northerner but i can tell you now that i have never heard of anyone putting red sauce on mash AND i defo have never heard of parched peas???

Black Forest Gateux, Scnitzel....best of all Sausages 8) bratwurst awesome

I love Italian food, and some Chinese, but not a curry fan.

Yep...you have the weather in Oz or the BBQ...always throwing it down here in summer.
My Daughter is loving the different types of food in Melbourne where she is, spoilt for choice.

However, Can't beat roast beef and Yorkshire pudding, and Fish & Chips...Friday night tea ...it's the Law

Honestly! I can't understand a bloody word you Northerners are saying. I've had to run half of it through Google translator...which made my PC crash.

Lol

We northerners have tons of delicacies. Ok, so nobody wants to eat them. But we do have some real gems :) Eccles cake is a personal favourite. That vindaloo pie I mentioned was amazing. Making me feel hungry

Worst of the culinary delights we have here is called a pie floater

That's quality. I'd love to see the reaction you'd get if you asked for one of them over here.

I think in wigan it would translate as a pie in some fluid, like gravy or pea juice. I'm going to ask next time I go down the chippy :)
