Now we all know that star wars figures were made in china. The question is, were any marketed and sold there back in the day? I'm off there on Saturday for 2 weeks. What, if anything, should I be on the look out for amongst the bric-a-brac and tat for sale in Bejing and Shanghai?

I doubt red China would have sold western film merchandise in the 80s

there might have been bootlegs I suppose :?:

A lot of stuff marked made in China is actually made in Taiwan.

China still disputes that Taiwan is part of China and not a breakaway country, so this would explain the made in China. Taiwan is also known as the Republic of China.

Well, I just got back from China. Couldn't post while I was over there as http://www.6spot.com is one of the websites on the Chinese governments "naughty step".

This was the extent of the "vintage", a rather tatty star wars belt:-

I also got this rather excellent Chairman Mao watch with waving hand:-

Aye, what is China like?
Like Jabba somewhere I wouldn't fancy going (but more cos I'm about as far from a communist as it's possible to be) but it looks like it's one of those places that would give you one hell of a culture shock.

it must be worth going to if they sell items like that 8)

next time you go Jase I want a belt and watch too, they are superb :D
