I'm sure most already know, but interested in everyone's thoughts. He literally has everything, from all the 3 packs to all the foreign MOCS and in the highest grades.

Personally I think it will have an impact mainly by smaller collections hitting the market between now and next year. If you have rare items that Jeff Jacob will be selling next year in a higher grade then now arguably is the time to sell.

I also wonder why he's selling now and what he's going to do with his collection room once it's all sold! 😂

OMG - just watched his sales video - that is some collection... the mind boggles at how much it cost, or how much setting that room up cost and how on earth he found all that...

I've never seen half of it before....

It's bound to damage the market price wise of a lot of toy lines, if the sale isn't handled correctly.
This would need to be auctioned off over a long period as it will soak up a fair amount of collectors funds for a very long time.
Will be interesting though, and thankfully I'm not looking to sell 🤞🤞🤞, but if you are, now is the time.

And yes, I wonder whats going to happen to that basement now…

Yeah saw that,I wonder why he's selling up?

He surely doesn't need the cash as he has his own building business (I think) unless he's got bored & has no more grails to chase?

I thought he sold his 3 pack collection years ago?

My honest opinion is that prices are on the way down, so the people only in it for the investment / flex / whatever are starting to liquidate. Nothing more than that.

*I realise the irony of this view considering I have just listed/sold a load of stuff, but I don't actually want to sell mine, I need to

Prices definitely dropping, I think he may have sold his 3 packs, last time I watched his videos he had them. That could have been 5 or 6 years ago and he was considering selling them.

I think Hakes are selling it over the entire calendar year.

Anyone seen the Hakes auction starting today? Some insane items listed, including a sales sample Leia Boushh on a Bob Fett Jedi MOC!

There are two Palitoy VCJ's for sale this month and one in May, so definitely looks like some collectors are liquidating, could be cost of living or could be the market is dropping, I agree with Edd it is probably the latter.

I think it's a mix of everything, I follow eBay listings closely and there's certainly been more listed in the last 2 weeks.

I think it's a combination of both.

He has sat on that collection for too long and personally I think he will lose a lot of money for what he had laid out in buying, AFA grading etc.

After the SE were released Star Wars was finding its way back into the mainstream. When TPM as released it went absolutely nuts. Ebay was in its infancy, and QXL ( anyone remember that auction site? ) was also about. I remember buying lots of 15 vintage moc's for $150 shipped in 2000. When Ebay started becoming more involved with sales things went through the roof but there were still bargains to be had. Since the early 2000's up until 2018 or so things were going good but then prices started dropping.

The problem was that people were paying over the odds out of desperation especially for high quality items and prototypes, which have now started dropping substantially.

It was ever going to last, and the prices realised a few years back will never happen again, unless you have a few Rocket Fetts in your collection.

He built the entire 3800 sq ft basement himself to display the Star Wars. He has been doing collecting it since he was 18 years old. 32 years to do it. He is currently selling that house to build a new one

Yes some heavy weight items in the first wave, DT Ben Kenobi, 12 Back AFA 85, one of 2 in the world graded that high. I reckon it will go for around the $100,000 mark. 🤯

His Joe collection is going to hit some big numbers - I think he will take an absolute bath on the Star Wars stuff though.

Does this affect CGA and Hakes?

Just incredible prices, $105,000 for DT Ben. The dark blue dome 12 back R2 went for silly money as well.

The total for the first lot of the Jef Jacob sale was around $1.4 million.

I wonder what way that gets taxed in the States? Any of our American members care to hazzard a guess as to how much of that the IRS take off him.

Over here he'd be paying Capital Gains Tax. It was pre Oct '24, so 10% if he is a basic rate payer and 20% if he is a higher rate payer. With a collection like that, I suspect he is the latter, so $380,000. He may well have the proof of original cost/payment to help reduce that slightly, but even so that is one hell of a tax bill.

Indeed, he's got two more auctions to go yet. Some are estimating the final sale total could pass $7 million.

My question is if you have the money to buy these items are you going to see a decent return in the next 10 or so years.

I'm leaning towards yes.

I saw a post of his wife and she said that there will be 6 more auctions up every three months. I like the fact that he is going to donate 130k to charities
