Lots of things to sell

Just to clear a couple of things up here from my perspective:

1: Chiffy, your message didn't state what you had PM'd about so nobody who was interested in the Jabba set or the Xwing would have known someone else had already enquired about them (I did state in my message that I had PM'd about them)

2: No price had been agreed to I haven't just come in with a better offer

I understand that it was a bit **** of her not to get back to you after saying she would put the items on hold.

At the end of the day this is a forum dedicated to buying and selling star wars items, this isn't always going to attract likeminded collectors.....on occasions you're bound to get the odd person that's acquired a few items that they are just looking to make a quick buck on, whilst this is possible, expecting this sort of person to source the best home possible for something they probably don't give a **** about is unrealistic....she probably saw my post and just thought **** it, he's up for paying me today I'll give them to him. I agree that is **** behaviour but whilst it's technically possible to do that on these forums I think you need to lower your expectations on calibre of star wars enthusiasts that you're going to come across.

The only solution I see is to either disable access to the buying/selling forum for new members or when you're interested in something that has been put up for sale, make a note of it in the thread so other members know not to enquire about it.......

Chiffy, if you still want them I'd be willing to trade if you have anything ROTJ that you're willing to let go. Let me know and I'll take some pics for you if you like.

Cheers

Buying and selling isn't just what this forum is dedicated to, yes its a part of it but its more also place to share information, collections make contacts etc.
How about a quick intro as well in the Vintage Collecting area from yourself..?

I think you're missing my point completely but yeah you're right I don't care too much, just thought some people overreacted. Suppose, in short my point is, if it's technically possible for dickheads to sell on here you'll get problems and one way to combat that when buying is by telling the decent folk what you're interested in so the item goes to whoever inquires first and not the highest bidder. Like I say, let me know if you still want it

Life is not fair wherever you are and chance will always play a part.

I've been shafted on eBay, in shops and the taxman is the biggest bastard of em all !

I am a newbie on the site and have found all to be helpful and informative but if I had wanted the Jabba and X wing I would have pm d the seller who at which point should have said "no worries I have them on hold so will let you know"
The fault here is with the seller.BUT as a potential buyer you should really live in the real world and not expect a seller like this to know the rules let alone play by them!
Judging by the fairness of James comments I would say they have landed at a good home

It's the old thing of buying from noobs  I wouldn't do it no matter how tempting the offer may be. Wouldn't do it on Ebay and wouldn't do it on here.

Like i said i've no problem with anyone who would've potentially purchased them and no it's fine i'll just wait for another 1 to come along James and hope they actually act like a forum member and not an ebay member. Can we put this to bed now. It's pissed me off enough already and hey, i'm going to Wembley for the weekend tomoz to see my team lift the tinpot trophy :D

Yeah no problems from my end at all, just wanted to say my piece. There are usually a few jabba sets on eBay. I'm likely to put mine on here for trading at some point. Get yourself in the Bobby Moore bar across from Wembley way!

Weve actually been allocated the east end of pubs by the met police James so ill be in the torch tomoz dinnertime till Sunday at about 5 to 3 lol

Just to say it again....this forum is not a buying/selling forum. If that is all you use it for............you really need to go to ebay (or RS)

Sorry, I thought the 'selling forums' were for buying selling and trading and the 'vintage collecting forums' were the social element, I was referring to the forum I was posting in not this site as a collective or my opinion of it.....I understand there is more to these forumS than just buying and selling. Look, I think that this has been blown out of proportion a bit. I joined this forum to learn, maybe pick up the odd item and hopefully contribute a little.....not to bicker, can we just give this one a rest?

Fair enough but I think its more just your turn of phrase, being on here for a week and telling members how things should be done that may have got up a few noses.

Fair point that, I understand....there were some pretty silly comments though! I felt my posts were at worst a bit on the harsh side but constructive and from what I've seen there are plenty of those sorts of posts knocking about on here. Maybe I should have put a couple of smiley faces in there or just let it slide.

You look to have a great setup here and it's great that this place is so active but I don't think it's the place for me. Sorry if I offended anyone.

Cheers anyway, James

Jesus........

If I newbie gets crucified for being lucky in getting something that someone offered on a buying and selling section of the forum then newbies like me will not want to stick around and get slagged

The forum will be elitist and unwelcoming which would be counterproductive surely

Some really good guys on here such as Edd, Iain for example who have been really helpful informative would be a real shame if newbies don't get a chance on here, lets face it everyone on here must have been a newbie at some time

I am on here so that when I need to know something or want to buy or sell or swap or even give away I know I won't get shafted, misled or ridiculed for being new and a learner.........mmmm........maybe not ?

Anyway I'm sure I will get slagged for the above.

I think this thread has been blown a bit out of proportion. I think the seller clearly made an error by promising items to Chiff and then selling them to James, but this is not James's fault

James's point about this being a buying and selling forum is probably missjudged as to a lot of the members on here it is a lot more than that

As for this forum being elitist, I would hate to think that it has come across that way - there are some great guys on here and most go out of their way to welcome newcomers

Hopefully Michael and James will stick around and find some real positives for being a memeber on here

Cheers Iain

I think that James point was this part of the forum IS the buying and selling part of the forum because I thought that as well

Your post just underpinned what I said some really good guys on here

I've got loads of ideas on what I want to do collecting wise and as such need somewhere where I can get constructive and informed support and be told when to swerve

Again thanks Iain much appreciated

Well put Iain.

Reading this, it seems to have blown a bit out of proportion. The last thing this forum should be, is unwelcoming to newcomers. I remember when I joined and asked a few questions, hoping not to get flamed !!!!
It's why I never bothered with RS !!!

Hopefully Michael and James will carry on posting on SWFUK.
