Loose display cabinet background ideas?

The new display case arrived and first impressions are good, the build quality is better than I was expecting based on some of the Amazon reviews. Really can't complain for less than £45. I had to make a new set of holes to space the shelves out a bit more, otherwise the tallest figures (EV-9D9, Amanaman etc) would not have fitted. Now the fun part - filling it up! It's great to see all my loose figures again, they've been in this box for about 7 years. I have run out of stands, so just ordered some more and will post an update when finished.

Looking good Edd 👍

Could do, what are people using, something like this?

I would say so, or from amazon. You can cut them and join them together with adaptors, check before you buy, plus you can change the colours on some as well.

Here's my first attempt at putting the figures in, annoyingly I am 4 stands short (prize for who can guess which figures are missing!) so have ordered a few more, I forgot there are more than 92 figures 🤦‍♂️

Some thoughts / goals after seeing my loose collection on display for the first time ever:
  • Some of the figures are in really good condition, but some need upgrading
  • Of course there are more Return of the Jedi figures than from the other films, but they are also really big in comparison! Especially with weapons. I've had to spread them over more than one row as they wouldn't all fit
  • I can't get some of the accessories to stay in their hands - Lando General, B-Wing Pilot, Jedi Luke's sabre. Duff figures or are they all like this?
  • Some of the figures seem to have deteriorated since I last looked at them :( the Biker Scout, Stormtrooper and Luke Stormtrooper have all gone more yellow, which is surprising considering they have all been in a sealed box in a dark cupboard. Ben also had some frosting, the good old sun trick sorted that out
  • Do I try and squeeze any variants in there? I don't have all of them (VCJ for example) but might be cool to have Blue Snag in there at least
Many days/weeks of rearranging coming up I sense!

nice collection Edd!!

Sorry to hear about some of your figures yellowing overtime, I find its best to check on them every couple of months or so, sadly being in the dark all the time can hurt them more than you think. trying to get the happy medium can be a challenge but can be done.

I think it depends on the figure, I got loads of Taiwan Fetts and some can hold their blaster and others cant, it just comes down to play wear / mould of the figures.

I am sure you will find the best suit of figures to display. Which ever way you go I think they will look great.

ps I think the Barada is the most yellowed I have seen!! I have seen them with a mild yellow over the years but not that bad. The yellowing looks as bad as one of the Yak Face figures I found in a childhood collection once so maybe Barada and yak face have similar plastic used?

Hope you will have some joy of them being on display :)

Personally I never put the weapon into the figures hands.
I don't want any rubs caused by the weapon being put in and out of hand, and I have seen a few figures with "plastic colour transfer".
I don't know if what is the correct term but I have a Fett where his hand has gone a dark blue on the inside where the blaster would sit.
I use a bit of blutac and have the weapon fixed to the stand, this also saves room as the weapon is straight up right.

If you want the figure to hold the weapon better try putting it in some hot water and then manually move the hand to get a better grip. Then run under cold to set the plastic. Not sure how this will affect painted hands, so perhaps try first on a "beater" if you have one.

I've never seen a Barada so yellow.😔

Nice collection! It's already looking really good in that cabinet.

For figures that won't hold their weapons a small blob of blutac in the palm usually works wonders :).

And Nick is right about colour transfer from some weapons to some figures' hands being possible. Not many figures suffer from this in my experience, but some do. It doesn't seem to happen to figures with painted hands or at all with blue weapons. However, black or very dark blasters and rifles held in unpainted hands can suffer from it. PBP Fetts, Luke Hoths and Rebel Commanders are all prone to it, at least when holding the correct weapons. My solution is to wrap a thin strip of clear plastic taken from a thick plastic bag around the handle of the weapon before placing it in each susceptible figure's hands. I've yet to have any colour transfer make it through that!

I hadn't even noticed Barada, I thought his vest was supposed to be yellow!?

And I also seem to have lost Admiral Ackbar, easy one to replace though.

Love seeing this Edd, I've still got my loose figures in an ancient Ikea Bertby with a plain back.

What I found interesting is that you have ROTJ at the top and SW at the bottom. Is this due to 8D8 and the spacing or you being a relative youngster and Jedi is first and foremost?

Looks nice. Bit cramped to add more imo.

I saw someone do the colors of the original single color carboard backgrounds in individual compartments once, which looked good too.
