liverpool tanked today

Too early to draw any conclusions from Liverpool's performance. Yes they were dire, yes they were flat, yes they missed Alonso, yes Babel is (apparently) a professional footballer, and n they NEVER looked like scoring, but it's only one game in.
Spurs totally deserved it though, in fact TBH had they won 3/4-1 I wouldn't have complained (thanks Robbie!). Apart from Reina Liverpool were awful to a man.

I still worry about Arsenal though. Their squad is very thin and we all know how incompetent their medical staff are! Plus that was a freak result, Everton won't ship six again for years.

It shoud be an intertesting season though. Mind you it's gotta be the weakest premier league for years, Liverpool/United/Arsenal/Villa/Everton have all sold key members of their starting line up from the last few seasons, and in Pompey's case they have sold basically everyon!

Great Point couple that against the strengthening Spurs and Man City have done and its make for a fantastic football season.

Plus even Boro won 3 nil :D so did the dreaded Toon though :|

Not sure what to expect from the Boro in the Championship. I like the club and I like Gareth Southgate as a person, but I think he's a very poor manager (too soft/wimpy). He sold some very good players and bought some pretty shoddy replacements.... Aliadiare for a start.

Im not a southgate fan but we do have the biggest squad in the championship and have bought yates and leroy who are young good hungry championship players as well as keeping huth tuncay wheater etc. Emnes is only 21 so he will hopefully get more games. Adam Johnson is playing really well. 4 points out of six same but so have newcastle so its to early to tell.

We at least i get to watch the Prem League and the Championship this year much to my mrs dismay (she is a plastic Man U fan lol)

Even in the Prem last year Boro had a good crop of young players they just had no quality experienced players. Tuncay apart. I think they need a few older experienced players like Gary Speed (but the Gary Speed of 4 years ago) who can talk the young ones through the game on and off the pitch.

TBH having seen him on Goals on Sunday yesterday, I think Didi Hamann would be a great signing for Boro. He's a free agent and a great player with bags of experience (and a genuine decent bloke) give him a pay as you play contract or a part coaching role (he's looking to do his badges) and your laughing!
He won't play every week, but then you shouldn't need him to.

got to disagree with you on two points there Weasel

Arsenal's squad is the biggest its been for years. None of Rosicksy, Nasri, Walcott, Diaby or Eduardo started Saturday, and all could be picked ahead of Saturday's team

Won't argue about the medical staff though

Toure wasn't a automatic starter last year, and when he did start without Gallas Arsenal shipped goals

Adebayor was useless for Arsenal last season, but it looks like he's lost his lazy streak for City

Arsenal could still do with another centreback and a rock hard midfielder, but as I said in the other thread they're in with a shout for the league.....unlike Liverpool.

You really will miss Alonso - Spurs of all teams

i watched the arsenal game and i was impressed with them ..some great young footballers but its a long season and they have no experience in big games . What i do know is wenger is long overdue a big trophy and part of me hopes he gets it because he sticks to his guns does not spend alot of cash and he also brings tons of young lads through !

slim

Jesus of course we miss Alonso, he is a class midfielder. Anyone would miss him.

Ohh and I read today 3 of liverpool's last 5 domestic defeast have come at Shite heart lane!
Spurs away is a dogey game for Liverpool. They beat us there by the same scoreline last year, albeit we actually played well in that game. So Liverpool are no worse off than they were last year, result for result. Still not exactly an ideal start to the season!

Ohhh and Toure played 41 games and Adebayor 38 last season Spoons! That's enough to qualify them as key players in my book, definately more than squad players! But no arguments about Adebayor being a useless lazy wanker, or Toure not having his best season.

after that shite pool performance i bet stoke and villa will both pick up the points at anfield ...The season's over before its begun , last season's 2nd place was a fluke and add to that the fact that utd were not great themselfs they still won it

slimbo still in heaven today at 19:01

Toure start 21 in the league and Adebayor only 16 - both are off to the AFC this year too

Spoons - I got my figures from their profiles on Wikipedia so, not sure where the discrepancy is, unless it doesn't differentiate a start from a sub appearance (which would be a bit non sensical).
Fair point on African waste of time/cup of nations, though.

Slim - Liverpool lost at Spurs and drew with Stoke (twice) last year and look how it finished. Ohh and United weren't exactly impressive at home to a newly promoted side! Yes they won, but it was hardly a ringing endorsement of the fact that they won't miss ballbag Ronaldo.

Far too early to draw assumptions, unless they are based on only one game. In which case Arsenal are gonna win the league beating everyone 6-1!

Just checked the official site, I was a bit out before

Adebayor - 21 in the league 30 overall and 7 as a sub

Toure - 26, 38 and 3 as sub

Either way my point is that Arsenal wont miss either player, but might regret that City have them. Whilst Liverpool will miss Alonso (and Utd Ronaldo) - as you say it should be a close season :)

Granted on last season's performances Ronaldo/Alonso are bigger losses to Scum and Liverpool than both Adebayor and Toure put together. BUT if you could have Adebayor and Toure in the sort of form they were in season before last.......

Actually, they'd probably get injured!
