Just thought id start up the debate..lol

The theory is that all moc's bubbles will crack and deteriorate eventually, wether it be yellowing, brittleness, or splitting.

I was looking through my moc and a rotj card had a split and a small piece of bubble missing, obviously it could have been me or the kids but it could also have been natural.

I suppose if it is going to happen eventually whats the point in collecting and trying to perserve them?

What does everyone else think? i mean if you paid 2k for a moc VC jawa and in 5 years the bubble droppped off you'd be pretty pissed off.

All plastic degrades...especially plastic intended for packaging. I would say the SW blisters and Empire blisters are safe, The jedi ones and potf well they seem to suffer the most. I will be long gone when they all degrade to the point of falling off...so It will be someone elses problem:)

I love MOCs as much as the next guy but to be honest this is the sole reason i got out of owning MOCs and got into proof cards. At some point all bubbles will fall of all the cards. Or at least all the bubbles will yellow then fall of all the cards. Also at some point all the figures will start degrading just lke alot of the blue snaggletooths at the moment. It may not be what you want to hear but this is just the way of things. Nobody knows when but we just know its inevitable some day.....sad but true.

Grant. :(

Yeah its just making me think of how to approach my collection, whats the point in paying premiums for clear bubbles ect.
I love my stuff but i may try and adjust it to be a more long term collection, id be devestated to see all my bubbles drop off lol.

Does it make anyone think twice about splashing out on a moc with high premium?

This would be the only possible plus of "u" grading in my opinion, how else are next generation collectors going to get vintage star wars of the unique nature that us guys currently have the luxury of owning.

I am not promoting "u" grading but surely it does offer some long term prospects even if minimal?

I am collecting moc but only at prices to suit me therefore limiting my sadness when the little ****ers do eventually fall off,i'm sure we would all like some bits to leave for our kids when we go but it's looking less likely the further down this road we all travel with moc's,hence me buying plenty of loose stuff at the moment.

For best results and to avoid further yellowing, wax that crack daily!

Andy - If i were you i would stick with SW and ESB and forget Jedi and POTF. The SW and ESB will last a very long time yet im sure as 30 odd years have passed and 99% of those early bubbles are not showing signs of wear yet mate.

Josh those yellow cracks you limelighted there are the best sort in my opinion. :lol:Long live yellow cracks.

Grant.

I have the same concerns mate. Unfortunately it will happen, but how long they've got is anyones guess. All we can do is keep them out of sun light and put them in a Star Case, or get an Arcrylic case to display/protect.
****- ive just bought four of them off you! Btw, im well pleased with them! Do i get a refund when the bubbles drop off :D

Well what else we gonna do with it? Invest it wisely? At least we are getting some fun and reviving some happy memories!
