Less posts due to FB collector groups

Never used face book or bloody twitter ..load of crap

Does nobody cherish the fact that they have a personal life anymore?

Biggest waste of time ever

Some of the members of my facebook group are forum posters who are posting more on facebook than on forums, I think the lack of rules and moderation
appeals to some of them. The majority of my posters aren't forum members and many have said if it wasnt for fb then they wouldnt be talking about
collecting at all. So its swings and roundabouts.

Your Vito is more appropriate, he'd sort FB out

Facebook is as I understand it predominantly a vanity parade, to me 20 minutes on there is 20 minutes of my life I would never get back.

This Forum is the only forum I regularly post and am involved with, it's a place where you can just be yourself, no pre judging or all that bollocks.

I know a few of them who should have never opened their mouth in the first place (**** fell out). You have quite an interesting mix on there...but hey your over 5000 members now.

i think collecting has slowed down since the TT scandal, more people are looking st saving money rather than collecting.

with regards to facebook...well some of the **** posted on there is laughable, i dont use facebook much but i keep in touch with a lot of friends on there.

Facebook has been killing off forums since it started, I've seen it on many forums. But I don't think it will ever take over completely - there are pros to Facebook, but many cons too.

Facebook is good for throw away discussion due to the scrolling natures of the feed and lack of search facility.
Anything of substance or value I stick on here and rebelscum.

:)

Yes true, the forums are still a more valuable resource and contain heaps off information.
but it was just an observation, so like Andy mentions, the TT scandal could be a reason aswell for people to be less active on the forums or just collecting in general, or it could be the time off the year...

I know i haven't been activly collecting anymore for the last year or so, i barely bought any new additions (only really worth mentioning was another 12 Back Luke) and i actually sold almost everything off, but i still like to catch up here on the forums with the collecting news/friends and listen to the vintage star wars podcast (chivecast).
I even have nothing from my collection left anymore, then my 12 back set, about 25 loose figures with Jabba playset and my collecting Books.... I still love to talk about star wars and read/post here on the forums, but have no itch to buy items for my collection currently... If i look at pictures off my display cabinet filled with the other few Moc's i used to have (my 2 display cabinets where nicely filled), then i do miss them, but i don't feel like going after them again. (to be honest, i pick up loose vintage figures now and then, but they are GI Joe's and nothing star wars).

Sorry rant over.

I've not really noticed less posts of late, don't do FB or Twitter and never will - don't see any reason to.

I don't think collecting Vintage Star Wars has slowed down...........the prices on high end MOC's has risen sharply in the last year and created more of a gap, that I've noticed. Just take a look at Palitoy's, Clippers, Meccano's etc - all have doubled or even trebled in the last year or so.

Same can be said for some of the more desirable loose figures such as R2-D2 Light-Sabre.

Sometimes people simply read posts and don't post as they have nothing to add or simply don't want to comment on the topic.

The Toni scandal impacted some collectors...but many us never owned any....so I think that has had little impact to collecting or forums. Some people get busy or on occasion have nothing to say. The Facebook group will never replace this forum. The amount of morons on those groups far out weigh the intelligent collectors or better yet respectful human beings. I have fun at it...but I love the fight sometimes, much less of it here these days..which is actually a good thing.

I think the TT scandal heightened the use of this place to an unprecedented level, which then set a new average due to it's continuing pace.
No that has all died down it definitely feels quieter but actually it may not be.

I think Jez nailed it. An influx of people who dont normally post combined with new members joining to post made this place feel like a busy airport. Now they have all gone it feels quieter but there's still the same amount of new topics and people posting.

I use FB for keeping in contact with people, posting pics of the boy for family and friends overseas and here, chatting **** about footy and flirting with Todd so it's not all bad people.

It's all Todd's fault

FB is great for seeing how fit or ugly your ex from school has turned out ...that's about it! Seriously though, i've found members of my family who I hadn't seen for many years on there such as sister, cousins, step mother (the horrible bitch). Dated a couple of women a few years back who I knew from school and got back in touch with through FB. It's paid for itself. I know it's free but you know... provided some good times

a lot of new collectors come in, start collecting, go mad and spend loads, then flog it all off and disappear. there is a select set of collectors that have been here all along, but when i first joined id say 70% have gone.

i think we are at that transitional time again lol

This is exactly who Facebook is for, and what Facebook causes....

or just stiff most of the time in your case :)

easy that!
its obvious to see that when new members who are posting well or people starting threads do so and recieve either no reply or next to no reply or interaction even from long term everyday login members here that cant be ****ed. that it isnt great and its not always valuations etc :| so im not surprised no one thinks to either come back or come back regular at least
it dont take jeremy kyle to work that one out

The thing is with new members that 95% of them are just here for valuations, to flog modern crap or scammers, you dont see the members and posts we reject :)

if they came in and read the information to introduce themselves, made an effort, members would warm to them, its actually quite tiring, genuine star wars collectors usually stick around and make the effort.
