Is the only difference between them, one has teeth painted white and one doesn't have his teeth painted?

Cheers

Slippery slope... Where do you stop?!

If I were starting again I would pick the variant I liked the most and stick with that.

Eg... Small head Han, Hollow Cheek Tusken Raider etc...

Just my opinion though

I collect variants of figures for my loose collection that I class as major variations. I have a very scientific way of classifying a major variation. I get both versions of the figure in question and show them to my wife. If she can spot the difference without me having to point it out its a major variation in my book.

We're ok with things like snags and Han heads. She even spots Luke hair colour differences, but when it comes to some of the variations she has no chance.

When I finally get my loose collection on display, I want it to be a visual thing. When people look at it I don't want them to think, why has he two fetts? I would rather they ask why the fetts are two different colours. I don't want to be putting the figures under a magnifying glass to show them a slight difference in the coo. Don't get me wrong, it's great that collectors do chart the history of the production of the figure, such as Jeffs Luke fb guide, but that type of collecting is not for me.

I agree, this could get a bit mental. I have the different Han Solos and different farmboys and bespin lukes, I also have a hollow eyes ig88 and solid eyes ig88 but that is only because he was my fave back in the day. I'm gonna leave it at that considering I'm already feeling uneasy about how much my collection is going to be worth.

Cheers

I do also have the grey and white haired Obi Wan's but didn't 'try' to get them, I got both variants by chance and didn't know they were different, so may sell one of them.

Do you consider loose limb c3po to be a different figure to fixed? and do you have all the different r2d2's solid dome/sensorscope and pop up?

C3Po with removable limbs vs fixed and the three R2s I would consider 5 different figures, as I think there are variants of each. I am picking my loose collection up slowly and am only up to the first thirty. I have the following variants:

big and small head han, luke fb blond/brown hair, ben white/grey hair, normal fett/trilogo fett, blue/red snag, brown/blond luke bespin, and I am currently searching out a green and brown snake yoda, with one on the way. I will try to get a VCJ, but don't want my pants pulled down over the price. I am having fun collecting them like this and learning quite a lot along the way about the figures.

When you first start collecting loose, you feel like you would stand a chance of being a completionist, but you soon learn they unless you have all the contacts in the world and an unlimited budget you are going to have to stop somewhere wether you like it or not. Just take it to whatever level you feel happy with and enjoy your collection and collecting.

My budget is quite limited now, this is the stuff I still need to complete, not including variants:-

Weapons needed

B Wing Pilot gun
Amanaman Staff
Luke Poncho and gun
Leia Hoth gun
Greedo gun
Two-Onebee medical instrument
Paploo Staff
Lumat Bow
Luke X-wing gun
Leia Bespin gun
A Wing Pilot gun
Barada Staff

Figures with weapons needed

Leia Organa (white)
Bespin security guard White
AT AT Driver
Klaatu Skiff
Yak Face
Luke Storm Trooper
Imperial Gunner
Romba
Warok
Lando Calrissian (last 17)
R2D2 Pop up
Solid Dome R2D2

I do worry that the collection will be worth too much and that, that money would be better off elsewhere though..... :(

I have never heard of that method before!

Tbh I've spent way too much in the last month, I'm not going to get into the different varients other than what I have already mentioned, debating whether to keep both Han Solos and both obi wans, I like the bespin and farmboy Luke's so will keep those but really I need to claw a bit of money back as I feel a bit guilty about how much I have spent!

We all feel guilty from time to time, but selling won't make you happy. If your into the collecting you tend to spend more money to get a certain figure and if your trying to sell, they mostly go for less. And you will always have the feeling of a lost. If you returned once to the things from your childhood, you will probably come back again and prices will have risen up, too.

I'm always returning to my childhood, built a 1991 Haro edge bmx two years ago, cost loads to build but didn't keep it because it was too nice to ride. This is different though because they will be on display and Star Wars has always been more important to me than bmx's or anything else from my past.

I even bought a nova GSI and restored it because I had one when I was 21, nutter!

Not on all, but, assuming they are Mint, certain figures take a path you cannot follow.

I've been collecting for nearly 20 years now + have got around 250 - 300 fig's due to the discovery of VARIANTS! OMG suddenly I just kept finding different examples/moulds/colourings! + the collection just boomed!

I am now at the point of trimming down the collection so I will have to compare all my variants + as someone here has said, I'll have to choose my favorite!

I have sold a few variants in the past + did find they sell well if paired with a varient, as in 2 fig's in 1 lot, so there's a few fig's I need to pick up on the sly to be able to do that!

I'm not having any variants at all, just one of each, where there is a variant, I'll pick my favorite.
