Sorry to bore the tit's off you, but just wanted to share my frustrations regarding banking, found a stupid cheap offer via Amazon stateside for $1.05 with free shipping could not believe my luck, then I see Amazon do not accept paypal (WTF is with that for starters??).

So I try to find out if there are charges with making international payments via visa with my bank (barclays) which I suspected (knew) there would be, half hours reading of there BS online & still no wiser, so I try live chat - all our representatives are busy helping other customers (great service as I have come to expect with bloody barclays), so I call the help line, on hold (shocker eh), then speak to the rep, has not got a clue so puts me on to international banking help & on hold for 10 min's, guy says hold on I'll find out (WTF do they get paid for??) anyhow he says yes 25 quid or 40 if its an express service, not that I have a clue what the express service is, so I say are we living in the dark ages?? 25 quid for a $1 transaction, he hesitates & goes off to find out more as he is bloody clueless, comes back 5 min's later - yes sir its a standard charge no matter the amount in question, then the usual have a nice day BS, yeah having a real good day after you wasted an hour of my life to inform me banks are still indeed screwing us blind & we are in the land of the dinosaurs in terms of service .

You would think with paypal & such available these days the banks would try to be a little more competitive..

Anyway it all ended just as anticipated, but figured I may save someone here an hour & give you all a good giggle at my expense  :|

can you not contact amazon to put the order through for you? surely they can process it and charge your account using their system?

or just get a stateside contact to run it through for you?

Could you not use a credit card. Halifax do a credit card called the clarity, which is awesome for foreign transactions. No fee no charges and a perfect exchange rate. Me and the Mrs use it on holiday and it saves a fortune.

Its possible I could have contacted Amazon directly Andy, turns out the deal was a bust anyhow with the seller having miss priced the item & all sales canceled so not lost anything, it was more just the frustrations of your bank & what a great service they provide :? but thanks for the input buddy.

& thanks for the tip Mr S, will have a look into that card, sounds like just the ticket 8)
