I have only watched it once so far but that seemed like Dr. Cornelius Evazan who poped up in the planet where the diamonds were being mined.
How the hell did he survive when the whole place got obliterated I presume he go out of dodge once the Stromtroopers got ambushed in the city and the fighting started.

Watched again today- loved it even more (same with 2nd viewing of TFA). Everything looked better second time around. Still not convinced by the score, especially in the early scenes.
Managed to see it last night and thoroughly enjoyed it. A great tie in from Ep3 to Ep4. Seeing Vader in his what's left human form on Mustafa was a nice touch... I guess the bacta tank healed alot of his burns as he looked not as crispy.
One thing that bugged me before viewing was how would they kill pretty much everyone off as we know they wouldn't be in EP4... this was done very well with the Empire wiping out the hero's and most of their troops.
The CGI on Tarkin wasn't bad at all... and his character really did have a menacing presence. However.. seeing Leia... well.. that could have been much better... she looked like a video game character.
Some real nice props and other characters that linked the series together was a great addition... even down to the very first few minutes with the blue milk.
Certainly much better than anything since 1983... even TFA didn't come close and I enjoyed that too...

I really enjoyed it, Tarkin was a brilliant piece of work , can't really think of any negatives apart from the score, it really needed john Williams, the new guy just didn't cut it for me.

I loved it! It was proper Star Wars and there were moments when the hairs on the back of my neck stood up and I had a massive grin on my face, when you saw familiar ships, costumes and characters etc. It looked amazing and the action was superb. Yeah if I was being picky I could criticise a few things but overall I think it was a brilliant sci-fi action movie with a great story. Loved the humour with the big droid. You have to ask yourself, if you had never seen a Star Wars movie what would you think? I would be blown away. Can't wait to watch it again, thumbs up 8/10

Been a while since I have posted on here, as I had really kind of hit a low point in my fandom over the last year, combined with a ****** year personally. However, I did drag my ass to see this on a Saturday afternoon matinee (which, to my absolute amazement, had 50 people at best in the theater - on Day 2!)
I am ecstatic to say that I was completely thrilled with this movie! I was completely hesitant, considering my extreme dislike for not just TFA, but for Disney's involvement at all. I only decided to even give it a shot in the last few days, and generally never even bothered watching trailers. Boy, am I glad I did. Completely redeemed the franchise after what was, in my opinion, a pure **** show last year. Not quite on the same level as Empire, but very close, if not equal to ANH. I am a fan of the PT, and for the last decade have alternated between ANH and ROTS as my #2 SW movie, but I can definitively say Rogue One is better than ROTS. Just not sure if after 12 hours I want to put it on equal footing to ANH.
Here is my more in depth, full review.
The way it starts was surprising. I was spoiled on no fanfare logo and text crawl, but in retrospect, I did look at it as separate from the main saga, so I can appreciate why they chose a different route.
One thing they did in this movie that the previous effort completely failed to do was give a backstory to our main protagonist. It let me know why she did the things she did, and ended up making me far more emotionally invested in her in the long run. I actually cared when she got upset, when she lost her father, and when she met her fate at the end.
Kassian was a character I wasn't sure about at first, but he ended up being quite a complex character. While I do have a gripe about the duo and their leap of faith to attain the DS plans being completely unrealistic, everything else about him was fantastic. The emotional turmoil he felt when faced with assassinating Jyn's father, and his journey from his first scene to his last one showed character development beyond even most OT characters.
The reference to the Whills was a very nice touch. They just gave it as a throwaway line, so it didn't fall into "fan service" territory, but it acknowledges the novelization of ANH, where Lucas began it with an excerpt from "The Journal of the Whills". Tremendous little nugget.
Other cameos and callbacks to the OT were great. You could tell Tarkin was CGI, but it was so well done that it wasn't an issue. Contrary to that, he was a definite bright spot. Same with Leia at the end. Her scene literally choked me up, and I had a hard time holding back a tear, which proved to me the emotional impact this film did have on me. The inclusion of Dr. Evazan and Walrusman (I refuse to call him by his EU name) was a smart touch, being a cameo that was fan service, yet made sense in the context they were used. The various droids and a couple of aliens were used as background characters the way Lucas would insert Jawas into Jabba's Palace, Bib Fortuna at the Boonta Eve podrace, or various droids popping up in several scenes in the background of the entire Lucas-helmed films.
Unfortunately, not all the cameos were good. While I had a fanboy jump for joy at seeing R2 & 3PO, it was an awkward cameo that was completely out of place. It would have made more sense for them to be seen on board the Tantive IV, as we all know they were on the ship with Leia after obtaining the DS plans. If they were just seen walking down a corridor on the ship, it would have been perfect, and completely tied in to ANH.
Also, using another Mon Calamari with Ackbar's voice and Admiral rank was something I was not a fan of. While I didn't have any problems with the character's role in the film, the species, his home ship, his rank, and all the other little things were right in line with my main issue with TFA, being a complete copycat of an OT character. Thankfully, that was really the only thing of note I saw that was an OT clone outside of what absolutely needed to be.
I was concerned K-2 was going to be a 3PO clone, the way BB-8 was an R2 clone, but aside from some corny 3PO-like lines, he actually had a distinct purpose besides comic relief. I was not a fan at first, but by the the time he had his last scene, he won me over and I felt for his end. Overall, I liked their dynamic, even if the bodyguard did seem to be put in a Chewbacca-like role of sidekick. The line "Really? But I'm blind!" had me laughing harder than all the attempted humor in TFA combined. THAT is how you script a sarcastic line when faced against an enemy, not this "so who speaks first" gibberish. Also, in that fight between the rebels, the Imperials, and assassins/terrorists, I SWEAR I saw a wampa being led by one group on a leash. It was quick, but it was definitely a hairy white beast. The only thing I didn't like was that he was not a Jedi, therefore unable to control the Force, but did that walk against enemy fire to pull the switch that enabled transmission of the DS plans. It just didn't feel right.
Vader was terrific. I liked the consistency, by using a bacta tank straight out of ESB to heal his wounds. He had a Force choke, James Earl Jones was almost indistinguishable from 35 years ago in providing his voice, and his attack at the end was pure eye candy.
Mon Mothma was terrific. A lighter role, but they really showed how she had to follow the will of the Rebellion as a whole, but was secretly overjoyed at the "rogue" attack.
I have heard many complaints about the score. I thought it was perfect. It recalled several important John Williams themes when necessary (the Imperial March, and the epic piece used when Luke was looking at Tatooine's twin suns in particular), but also had several excellent original pieces, especially in action scenes.
The sound and special effects were amazing. So many little sounds from the OT used to perfection here. The AT-ST was a better scene to me than the AT-AT's. They perfectly integrated state of the art visual effects with nearly 40 year old effects like the look of the DS plans. Incorporating lines and images from Red Leader and Gold Leader were strokes of genius. Red 5 blew up, which was a nice way of explaining how the call sign was available for Luke later on. But really, the CGI Tarkin and Leia. Just wow. Not 100% perfect, but I have never witnessed a more photorealistic CGI human onscreen before, and not only did they pull it off, they made Tarkin into a major character! I'm biased, but that should win them an Academy Award for visual effects alone.
Then we have the plot. Yeah, like the Titanic, we all knew how it would end, since obviously the DS plans were a major component of the plot in ANH. However, instead of giving us a generic good vs bad, with an eventual win by the good guys, we got a story that not only went off in several unpredictable ways, but it even covered one of the very few plot holes in ANH. Many have asked over the years why the Empire wouldn't know of a weakness in the Death Star's structure. Well, now we know, if was an architect who designed the DS against his will, so he put the thermal exhaust port in there on purpose to give the Rebellion a chance. Unlike most revisionist ideas in prequels, this one made a TON of sense, and answered that existing plot hole in a very satisfying manner. I am also a MAJOR fan of using the first half of the movie to develop characters and the plot with minimal action scenes, and build to that final amazing action sequence. ANH and ROTJ did that exceptionally well (ESB isn't included because the best action scene of that movie happened in the first half), and this movie followed that template to perfection.
Yes, this movie has made me fall in love with Star Wars again, after a couple of years of increasing disenchantment. Can't say I have changed my opinion of Disney yet, as they are a very definite 1-1 so far for me, so here's to hoping TFA was the exception as a bad Disney SW movie, and not Rogue One being an exception as a good Disney SW film. An absolute 9.5/10 from me. :shock:
Oh, I do think they mixed up titles with that DC Comics summer hit too. That movie was filled with a "Rogue's" gallery of villains, while this movie was absolutely deserving of the title "Suicide Squad".

Love it! Thought it was great highlight for me was seeing Dr evazan and ponda baba
I've only just got back from the cinema. Not sure what I made of it. Haven't really processed it yet.
Seemed all death and killing the whole way through. I get it that none of the heroes could realistically survive but there was certainly a darker element to this than all the other films.
I dunno really. Great tie in and some amazing scenes. Loved the cameos and pretty much every character was bang on. Impressed with 1977 Leia at the end.
Unfortunately I had some noisy bastird sat next to me munching crisps and sweets the whole way through. Need to see it again. I do not have the strength of character to tolerate the noise of people eating

Saw Rogue One this afternoon and I can't wait to go and see it again. Loved it all apart from the score.
Tarkin was amazing apart from the eyes which seemed too bright I think. I watched ANH when I got home and Peter Cushing also uses his hands slightly more I think and CGI Tarkin's skin was slightly too shiny but I'm being very nit-picky here. It was amazing and they should get an Oscar for that alone. The voice was spot on too. By contrast Leia just looked X-Box cut scene.
I was convinced I saw the Ghost and glad others saw it too, nice call for General Syndulla over the com as well. Missed Chopper, I'll look out for him next time.
Pleasantly surprised by Felicity Jones, her acting was way better than in the trailers.

Glad that "A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away..." was still present. Still can't get over the 20th Century Fox fanfare not being right at the start of a SW movie!
The Rogue One logo was *****. Looked really thin and weedy. It looked like something out of a cheap fan film.

Overall I enjoyed it. Would like to see it again, but from the first viewing here's a few likes and dislikes:

- Much preferred the characters/actors in this compared to TFA
- Thankfully they removed that cringe "I'm a rebel, I rebel!" line that was in all the trailers. I was dreading that!
- Ridiculously good special effects, especially the CGI Tarkin and Leia. I wonder how they got permission to use his likeness?
- Loved that the end was basically the beginning of Star Wars, although it leaves no room for a sequel!

- The intro - completely pointless, bad script and over-acting. It added nothing to the film, should have started when she was an adult.

Just got back. Really enjoyed it. Didn't know what to expect. I avoided pretty much every spoiler (full Internet and media black out) so plenty of nice surprises. They've made a great film! Ready for next Christmas now.

Just got back. Loved it. Expected to see vader on a solo mission in his tie fighter near the end but glad it ended the way it did instead! Wondered whether the chubby pilot was meant to be a young porkins?! Wanted to see at-at inside cockpit shot. Thought I saw one of the band of merry men wearing a boba style helmet which was cool - Jengo? Leia had a slight potato head but still amazing. Well impressed with Tarkin. Better than TFA hands down. Possibly best fight scene so far.........

If any film was going to bridge part of the gap before ANH this is it. Gareth Edwards has done a great job in this, and i feel that we have finally found a film with the look and feel of the OT. I have to admit that i liked this much more than TFA, and it left me with a feeling ive not had in....
Amazing nod to Cushing, his family must be honoured to see that. I didnt think Leia was bad, she was a horny little minx back in the day Ive a funny feeling that Vader is what made us go all giddy. I also loved the end by the way of using the run up to ANH.

Yep, just after he runs outside to tell her the news, you can see Chopper exiting the building as well on the left of the screen. Very cool.

I agree, this is the film I've been waiting for a story submerged in the rule of the Empire not tied to the Skywalker family.
Done very well.
Just been to see it, not much to add that hasn't already been said. The score was poor, i thought Tarkin was really well done. My missus hadn't realised he was CG'd until i told her. I thought it fitted in really well given the time frame it was working with. I wasn't a fan of Vader's scenes at all. The actor playing him didn't fit the costume and his fight scene was pretty underwhelming IMO. They seem to struggle to strike a balance between underwhelming and ridiculously over the top. Saying that Disney have really shown GL how to make a SW film. I hope he watches this and realises just what monstrosities the prequels were.

Finally got to watch it this morning. Had seen most people were big fans and to be honest, not sure what spoilers could have been given as we all know the ending
Loved all the nods to the OT - Wally, DSD, R2, C3PO, Imperial Gunners etc - and the bits from the cockpits were great. I thought that there were loads of subtle references that maybe some of us in the hobby might think were a bit corny but to people coming back to the film having not really been immersed in Star Wars since they watched it as a kid would love those
Tarkin was amazing - I am not sure I get why people are knocking that - the fact that this is possible in this day an age is pretty much sci-fi itself (watch some of the Black Mirror episodes to see what I mean) - the Leia was a bit cheesier but again better that anything else I have seen on the big screen in terms of recreating past characters
I didn't really notice the music that much - that might be a negative but to be honest it isn't really why I watch films so I wasn't bothered
Overall I am glad to see it won over a lot of people - considering all the doom and gloom around Disney taking on the franchise then I think that they have done a bloody good job with the first two films they have put out

scooternick did you mean Jango?? I also spotted the helmet! But when I think about it, hes gone so could it be another bounty hunter?? Well spotted I forgot about that. I am going to watch it again this week so will get a better look

This is a nice look at some of the Imperial troopers and hardware in Rogue One. Someone mentioned about the AT-AT being destroyed easy compared to Hoth, and this explains it (these ones are primarily for Cargo with weaker armour and no chin guns, not assault)...
