Why is this book so expensive ?

This may be a really stupid question, but i've just looked online and some of the prices are crazy............165 (Sorry my pound sign is broken) ????

I guess its like everything else, it all comes down to how many are available and how many people that want one.
It was a fairly expensive book when it was new, and since theres been announced a new edition for quite some time I would guess theres alot less on the marked than what is in demand.

The main reason is they stopped producing it. They were supposed to bring out an updated version but it never happened. Most people who have this book want to keep it so when they come up for sale loads of people want it.

It's not really that they stopped producing it, but more that it had one production run/printing and that took several years to sell through. Honestly, I'd imagine John was relieved when the last books sold, so he didn't have to store them anymore. He even said several times that he would not do a 2nd edition or print run. This was the first time that I recall where a collector book has gone up in value and I think it was because of the fact of it being self published and much smaller numbers than the ones done through a major publisher and available in bookstores where they eventually have to be heavily discounted to get rid of stock.

Also, I've never seen mention that the 2nd edition has been cancelled, but merely delayed. I hope it isn't going to see the delays of "the other book", but some kind of status update is certainly needed.

Yeah i heard it was "delayed" too. Well over a year ago.
Personally i don't see the necessity of a 2nd edition. From what i heard they are mostly adding modern stuff. I may be wrong.

I think he is adding foreign as well, I know Trilogos are going in 100% this time around.

Top guy and it'll be a great book once it comes out (2nd edition I mean)

I found my copy in the London Forbidden Planet for £20, the highlight of the day after all my trains home had been cancelled and I had to work from Charing Cross to Victoria and then to Blackfriars.

This always happens with books though, people put it off thinking there isn't any point or they will always be in stock then of course after a few years they sell out and all of a sudden people go ape **** for them.

A meccano to trilogo book sold for over £70 the other month on ebay and it took Stephane about 6 years to sell out his stock!! They were only 25 Euros or something lol!

I think you're confusing it with the other book. I've never heard mention of modern in the new edition. It's mostly expanded sections to include more about Trilogos, Droids & Ewoks, Prepduction, etc.
