Is this really where things have got to?

Just caught up on that slide discussion..the COA letter that CIB did for that slide cost the guy $75!!

$100 all in (with the case) to authenticate a slide..which in all seriousness didn't need authenticating :|

I quite often find myself feeling lost in this hobby of late, I don't relate to the "new breed" in any way, shape or form and the majority of the people I collected alongside left the hobby due to all this **** years ago. I never thought I would be collecting forever but I thought I would at least enjoy it for quite a while..as time goes on that seems less likely.

(PS: Hobby drama sucks the life out of me too - but that's unrelated..most of the time ;) )

this is why you need to go to Farthest From, because you get back to roots, before Facebook, before forums, before eBay.
Human interaction is a wonderful thing.

$100 what a super muppet! Afa and CIB must be rubbing there hands together with glee! DT if farthest from wasn't the furthest possible distance from my location I would be in ;)

get a lift with some of those that are further north that past Sheffield on the way down ;)

I'm going to try to get to the next one Dave, if FF doesn't get me interested in SW again I don't know what will

Joe...I myself have publicly stated that I am going to lose it if I see one more limelight of someones AFA graded 12 backs. It is not thrilling nor is it impressive. I am more impressed by the guy who finds a beater carded figure cheap as that required searching and for that person..they got a bargain and the excitement factor is there. It takes nothing to open up your bank account and pay 20 times for something encased in acrylic.

I have been quiet as of late due to these guys sucking the life out of my passion for a hobby I once loved. Most of these new breed of collectors are not even collectors. They are investors or guys who feel the need to compete based on inflated values and showmanship. I ****ing despise some of these individuals. There is no more talk, friendship or love for vintage...it's all about buying, selling and outdoing each other.

It is true that these types of people have always been around, but they are breeding like ****ing rabbits and I am sick of it. I have left a couple of those FB groups and have turned off all notifications. The forum is my home.

Couldn't agree more Todd there are a large number of ego toss pots on Facebook all trying to out do each other., and this place on the whole feels like a calm oasis. I spent 3 years trying to put together a 12 back run but in those 3 years I also saved up and bought a house along with renovating it. That luke as nice as it is cost £1800 more than my 9 cost me. These people haven't got a Scooby doo!

Yeah at first the FB groups were a real eye opener on just how many idiots were out there, the constant pictures of modern, the "newbie" questions etc..but while that **** gets annoying the biggest turn off is the stuff you are talking about Todd, the crazy spenders, the show offs, the repetitive limelights of the same old **** (just 5 points higher on AFA's scale than the last one you saw) Honestly, I don't remember collecting ever being like this.

I always laugh when people applaud FB sellers for their service + friendship..well duh! He just made hundreds if not thousands of dollars profit out of you..why wouldn't he chat nicely to you, pack your item well and ship in a timely manner? That's not exactly friendship..you are his customer!

The niche groups on FB were once a safe haven from the idiots, but as time goes on you see the same people you tried to get away from migrate into the groups you DO enjoy..and then you think it's time to leave those ones too lol

Sigh.. :(

Ill post some pics of the atat im saving, thanks to guys on the forum.. Brian will walk again!!!!!

couldnt give a **** whether its gradeable.. all my stuff is of a beater played with nature..

There is one guy on there that really does my spuds and I don't want to say too much as it will seem like a dig at the competition but that ****ing A&A guy has to be one of the most annoying out there.

Not only is every post a plug for his cases (and seriously he manages to shoehorn a case into every response) but he is also one of the worst at the whole one-upmanship that seems common on there. Someone will post a picture of something and he (and plenty of others) will then have to post up something better. It is like one long pissing contest on there sometimes

Iain, your quote would look great in 1 of my cases, let me know when you are ready

Some of the comments are so dumb it is mind boggling. The questions that get asked can easily be answered by a quick read on here or RS. I'd rather read the stuff myself, get semi-educated and enjoy the process.

There is definitely a rise in the big spending American collectors though - you can see from people posting new acquisitions they're hoovering up stuff in eBay.co.uk because .com is more expensive still.

All that said, I'm not sure it's much different to Palitoy collectors over here spending big money on Palitoy stuff but the early posts are right, there's much more of an emphasis with the stuff being AFA at all costs, whereas over here people will still take it or leave it.

I think it's much easier to sell AFA stuff, as people see it as a guarantee (which it isn't), but no way ZacK gets £3k+ for that Luke, but who can blame him for trying.

Which group in particular mate? As you may have realised, I've never even bothered with them, now I want to know what all of the fuss is about.

This is where the non-transactional remark doesn't work. I've been censored twice now for basically saying - are you taking the ****ing piss? This is helping drive the prices up. If I stick a loose **** figure on for £50 then surely someone should be allowed to slap me in the face rather than allow it to eventually sell to some newbie and contribute to the problem? Some of the 12" stuff is stupid. I saw £40 for a loose Jawa. That I paid £15 for recently.

And don't get me started on variants! Hey guys I have a figure where the left testicle is 2 microns bigger than the right. How much is this worth to a focus collector? **** off! Factory errors do not equal variants!

Rich sorry to break it to you but we are going to introduce the non transactional rule here as of February.

And the golden.... How much is my MOC worth? I haven't even got the ****er back from AFA but I've pestered them everyday and they've told me it's an 85. I'm not looking to sell its just for my own piece of mind.
It's worth a little bit more than an ungraded MOC tosspot. Hopefully less once the bubble bursts.
