This loose vinyl cape Jawa sold yesterday for £910 (plus a snip at only £15 for UK postage!).

Yes, someone has paid a tenner or so to have it encased in acrylic but has anyone ever seen a loose VCJ sell for as much as this before?

Wow.

What a piece of ****. This thing is all about what is wrong with the hobby at the moment in my opinion.

What is being displayed here. Is it the VCJ, which is a nice clean example, or the massive coa that is merely pointing out to anyone who looks at it that the figure is rare and must therefore be valuable.

That coa looks like a school swimming certificate. Why would you have that encased in plastic? Why would you want to display it? I understand the value of a coa and why you would need it but it's accompanying paperwork. When did this have any display value whatsoever. Do we collect vintage or the coa's.

And the price is insane.

Have to agree with Mr S, not a fan of that certificate display but if I had £900 to spunk on a VCJ I'd have no reservations about breaking it out of that display and getting it regraded in a smaller enclosure if grading is important. The figure itself would appear to be a fine example but anywhere near £900 is just bonkers imho!!

Why get it graded anyway???

I think there are some people who do not know or trust that what they have is real so will either get it graded for piece of mind or buy graded for the same reason.

Not withstanding the thousands of incorrectly graded items that destroys the rep of Afa and ukg in the toytoni debacle and a few other faux pas that have been made, the grading and coa is still seen as the ultimate proof of authenticity in some people's eyes.

I have had two pass through my hands in the past 12 months Jez. One was slightly damaged and one was not. The one that is not came from the palitoy time capsule.

I paid circa £300 for each of them. Some will argue that was too high. Both ungraded of course.

Last night there was a loose complete VCJ on FB for €400 and unfortunately it didn't last long and also people start accusing the seller of being fake etc etc!!

Nice. Well I might just have to keep my eyes open and my ear to the ground.

I agree, I think with todays strong market £350 - £450 is about right for a loose minty C9 VCJ... but it does seem that £910 is more than just an anomaly when it comes to graded examples - is it fair to say that it's the figure that increases most in value once graded?

Someone just paid £915 for this

Yes I think that's probably fair to say. I guess it's to do with the worry with fakes. Is this the most faked figure?

It's funny to think someone would pay double for a figure as long as AFA had given it the OK..

Especially when you know that AFA have graded repro weapons before: http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1075960/

Or graded figures with shockingly terrible pop removal cover up attempts (afa 80 no less!): http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1114634/

...remember that time they thought Romba was Chief Chirpa too?: http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1075960/#post18677413

I better not say anything about the Ackbar reseal ;)

Like Pete said, one born every minute
