I know a few of you have seen this guys thread on RS.....
http://forum.rebelscum.com/t1085628-3/

I have not made a comment there....but for me the fun of collecting is taking my time to enjoy the hunt and slowly growing a collection. Anybody with wads of cash can instantly buy a collection...but where is the fun in that. Not throwing rocks at this guy.......but I really am not impressed with a "Shopping spree". I did not make this comment over there as I would be going against the tide of all his well wishers and would get my normal banning as usual. :D

I agree Todd, I was impressed at what he had managed to get but the fun of the hobby is the hunt and searching. I can see you getting bored pretty quick if you had the money to just through at new stuff. He must have bucks, I spy a MOC POTF Anakin in the top corner of the first pic.

I commend the amount of stuff he could get in 45 days, but in this day and age of Ebay and forums..if you have the right amount of money, you can amass that much stuff. Kinda like sex...just becuase you finshed first does not mean she enjoyed it.

I agree that a big part of the joy of collecting is in the hunt.

But if you had the money, pieces you want are available, wouldn't you get them fairly quickly? Part of the joy, and for me its moving towards being the biggest part, is in the owning and displaying of things you love.

Personally I'd love to have evrything on my wants list. It save all the effort of looking and missing out on things.

That said if I did I'd probably just add further stuff to my list. And he does say he wants to upgrade, so there's still a lot of the hunt left.

I also agree that a big part of the joy and fun of collecting is in the hunt for what you really want.

I have been hunting some items for 11 years now and I have not found them yet

He's not Ugrading- he's looking after them- he's all good.

I'm sure his third post says he is.

I still think good on him. There was stuff he wanted, which he could afford and was available. I don't think it takes the fun out of collecting. If you really enjoy the hunt that much there are always other things you can go for if you wanted to continue.

I agree, I can think of a few 'collectors' over on RS who clearly just have an infinite well of cash, and there's nothing clever about paying absurd amounts of money for over-priced AFA graded toys. Finding a bargain or a really hard to find piece is where the fun is at.

I've got mixed feelings about it.

Part of me agrees with Todd, I think that the enjoyment of collecting is partly in the challenge. And if you have bags of money then where is the challenge in that.

However if I had that money would I do any differently - probably not :)

What I do think is a bit lame is telling everyone how quickly he acquired all these pieces! Of what relevance is that? It's kind of just like saying "I've got **** loads of money and want everyone to know it"! I would of respected it more if he hadn't told everyone it only took 42days.

I agree on that edd, there is limits for what I also would pay for star wars toy. I would rather have the patience and wait for the right price and it is also more fun if you get a little bit all the time than a lot all the time.

I think you two are just missing each others spelling, sith-smith is talking about UPgrading and maulster is talking about U-grading. Could be wrong though.

There's not much in this game (and as far as I can see in that instant collection) that is actually rare. You could probably put together a full set of MOCS on every cardback with every rare variant such as the vinyl cape Jawa or DT Luke from Brians Toys in one order right now.

Just to be clear, I was not throwing stones at the guy....I was just stating what is the fun in buying a truckload at once. Maybe one huge rush...then after that...the high is over. I also said that anyone with wads of cash can get an instant collection in weeks....so for that part of it, I do not see that as an outstanding achievement.

No, you are right!

I agree with most of the comments on here. It isn't a personal attack on a very lucky guy but think of it this way -if I won the lottery and bought every variation of every figure would I deserve a well done on amassing such a wonderful collection?

The best part of the collection is how it is displayed, it looks really cool.

On one hand I think it would ruin my enjoyment of the hobby if I didn't have to hunt for bargains or scrimp and save but there are other times when I wish I had the money to buy things I had to pass on due to lack of funds.

Must be a very interesting feeling knowing you don't have to watch what you spend, I would imagine it is a very quick and easy kind of gratification though and the novelty would probably wear off a lot sooner.

IF I did win the lottery however I would definitely pick up some lovely new stuff and see how I felt about it

Yeah I don't think anybody is questioning the guy's intentions or pissing on his fireworks, or indeed denying they'd do the same if money was no object! I just genuinely believe that if you don't work hard for something, you won't appreciate it as much. And generally heaps of cash are not worked hard for. You could apply it to anything - I bet a 17 year old kid is more in love with his first Vauxhall Nova than a 50 year old CEO is with his latest Ferrari.
