Great thread guys, but burning the repro weapons will not help. Because they will just make some new ones

Not buying repro weapons is a good idea, but if you see a rare figure variant with a repro weapon for a very low price would you then not buy the variant ?

But it would help to reduce the number coming into our community.

You're right you would still buy the figure but throw the repro away, but I don't think that we should encourage repros by selling them on the forum even if it is made clear, just get rid of them all and be as best as we can be a 100% repro free site?

Yes 100% free repro site could be cool, but there will always come new repro weapons we need to ID and now all know about repro on this forum. A Guide to spot them could help a lot, I know tig have one, but not all weapons is in that guide.

ps. the UV/black light test isn't 100% either. Taiwan sabers don't glow from memory & Vince's repros do.

think yodas snake also sinks, and lightsabres both float and sink!! :?

Yes, you are right about the push out light sabres - they are a right pain in the arse to check - the hand held ones (Luke Jedi & Bespin) should all float so are easier to check

I'd forgotten the Yoda Snake - although I haven't seen too many repro versions of this knocking about

What annoys me is repro versions of easy to find weapons - I sell the genuine article for £1.00-£4.00 in most instances - so why bother buying repro ones - just doesn't make any sense

I liken Repro's to an infestation of fleas! They get everywhere and it sometimes feels like a never ending battle. Even when you are thorough about checking for repros there is a horrible nagging feeling that there are others you just dont know about or are so well made its exceedingly difficult to know for sure.

Because of the variety of different repros out there it can be very confusing and there is a lot of conflicting information and rules that dont always apply.

Sabers and DT sabers are a good example of this.

The float test does not always determine whether a (pull out) saber is legitimate or not. I wish people knew this because it causes a lot of wrongful paranoia with buyers claiming there sabers are repros when they are not. Some (many) legitimate sabers sink. The older lettered sabers all seem to float as do DT sabers although its not surprising that a hollow piece of plastic floats hence most repro DT sabers also float.

Other than having experience examining the saber details by eye another very useful tip is to use a black light. Careful because UV is harmful to the figures if used in large amounts with extensive exposure. I have a blacklight torch pen and I take the saber in a dark room and just flash the light once on the saber. if it fluoresces then its a legit saber. i've never seen a repro that does this. Its harder to notice the fluorescence with a ben saber but when you compare it to a repro (which almost has a purplish hue under UV) it is also quite aparrent.

AJ - you are right with the float test - anyone using needs to make sure they push down on each weapon - a fake should sink if pushed - but I have left bowls of fake around for a day or so and noticed that a few have floated back up to the top

I am not saying the float test is a be-all-and-end-all in terms of test but it would get rid of a good percentage of repros

I have got a handful of them that I would willingly send in and watch them get burned on bonfire night or something!

I think this is a great idea, maybe a sticky thread in the sales forum flagging no repro weapons to be sold even if they are disclosed, let's shut our doors to the repro shite!!!

Yes you are right about the float test we need to push down on each weapon, I think it can spot 90% but people may not only use that test, they also need to look at the weapons to spot the repro.

I have tried to speak up on tig, that did not help.

What I mean is a lot of original weapon variants, accessories variants and cape variants is missing, I have not been visiting the site lately. So I don't know if they have updated it and some repro is also missing. If we have an original blaster that is not in that guide, then people get confused and think it is repro.

OK..... here goes....I'm the eejit that passed on the repro weapon to Iain, yes I will sort it, Iain has my word on that and no, it was not intentional, not in any way. I recently picked up a few figures in bulk to sell on and clearly didn't give half the time I should have to checking the weapons correctly, 100% my fault as a seller on here
I have learnt a big lesson here today.....it was embarrassing to have sold these onto a fellow Forum member, let alone someone whom I have dealt with on numerous occasions.
As a gesture that this won't happen again I have removed all the figures that I had up with weapons on the sales thread.....I agree now that even if advertised its probably a good start if repro weapons aren't sold on here?
As for name and shame...I appreciate that Iain would never had said anything and I thank him for that but I felt it was a good lesson I have learned and highlights the need for each collector to take responsibility for their own sales at least....
Well that's it....I have sent a figure to one other person who I will be in contact with asap to explain aswell....

Obviously its impossible to determine how many repro weapons are out there, but a repro amnesty sounds interesting!

But to throw them away or burn them seems like a waste (they have a purpose after all!). Maybe they could be sent somewhere where they will never return, like an orphanage overseas or something. Bundle them up with some beaters or old POTF2 crap, and then kids could...you know...play with the toy weapons without a care where they came from or how they are pissing off a bunch of toy collectors! :lol:

No flaming Jeff, well done for coming out and explaining, sounds like you're doing everything you can to resolve it, and kudos for removing your repro weapons from your listings.
I'm not sure about sending them to orphanages, bit small and potential chocking hazzard, plus I can imagine their look of bewilderment when a box full of plastic guns etc rock up with no figures to go with it.
To me it doesn't seem a waste to destroy them, think of them like counterfit money....the less of it out there the better

Before Christmas I rooted through my loose figures to sell the duplicates, checked for repro's and was gutted to find several. All would have been bought a very long time ago when ebay was a real auction site, and there were very few resources to help a buyer out.

I'll never pass them on and I'll replace them with something real. Just gutted that I found em

Hey bud - mistakes are made - as Iain says in his post its happened to him also - I've made mistakes with repros also - I found out recently that both my Leia organa's were holding **** in their hands
