Imperial Set ESB 3 pack - $7k already

Just an observation.
Maybe it's time to realise that prices are on the up.
This is an auction not a set price so there must be at least 2 people that think it's worth the price( the high bidder and the under bidder).
People seem to be shocked by some of the high prices but maybe it's just the way things are going.

I'm reassured that everyone else felt the same as I did.

It's not that it's gone to a high price in itself, I'd expect that, but it's the level of that price which is way, way higher than I'd expect.

Nick, I agree, the high prices are here to stay. Perhaps the people who've been saying they'll fall back to a more realistic level sometime (I was one), might need to reconsider that thought. I thought Kenner 12 backs had begun to fall back abit but I'm not even sure that's the case any more.

So some of these guys that recently got into the hobby to somehow become instant collectors will have no one to impress as they will have driven us all away from the hobby.

At the end of the day, how can anyone justify paying that kind of money for cardboard and plastic?! Madness... And when the hype of over, so will the price bubble.

Oh come on - watches are just a few grams of metal, art is just cloth and paint, books are just a few quids worth of paper... etc etc.

I agree prices are high and agree that it isn't good for the hobby generally - but I completely disagree with people picking apart the intrinsic value of the items we collect, as most things really are worth bugger all when you look at them in that way.

I'm not quite sure if my throwaway comment needed a toned reply, but fair enough, I do see your point. I was merely making the point that paying almost £5000 for an item that stripped down to its bare bones of being cardboard and plastic was madness to me anyway, but I guess that's the type of person I am. Don't get me wrong, I'm a collector, so I get why people are prepared to lay down a princely sum of money for an item, but I never lose sight of the reality of what it is over the costs and my emotion of wanting to own it again. Perhaps it's because I don't have any nostalgia towards that particular item, or maybe because I'm not an exotic collector. I guess part of me is still living in the days where you could buy a 12-BK for a couple of hundred pounds. My apologies if I offended you with my original comment.

Something is only worth what you're willing to pay, whether that be a piece of fine art or a plastic action figure.

I totally agree with some of the sentiments posted, prices seem to be sticking around the high side - and the foreseeable future. Given Disney's long term plan for the franchise I can see certain items such as MOC's becoming something of a commodity and really rocketing in price.

Not offended at all, and my reply wasn't meant to sound like I was.

I just find it a little odd to bring these things (any SW we collect, not just this 3 pack) back to 'cardboard and plastic' as the intrinsic value of even the cheapest loose Jedi figure is a tiny % of the selling price - as is true for the vast majority of things people buy. It's a comment I see time and time again, and have always found it really odd.

As put prices are basically determined by a market of what a person is prepared to pay, if that market fluctuates over time then there will be winners and losers.
The key differential for me is that the collectors that have SW in their genes, will collect come what may over the long haul, and will tweak their collecting in line with available funds, over that long time period and be more likey to snag a good buy by being patient, researching ( let's face it as a true collector the research and questions and answers are all part of the hobby) being a member of a community such as this forum and using good old fashioned common sense :D

Quick fix collectors are going to drive up prices, as they are prepared to pay ,that's the way of the world, supply and demand.
So really if your in it for the long haul and have SW in your genes, then life is still good, and there is always hope

In a nutshell...I have a LFB, no saber loose head and limbs, paint loss and a chunk missing from his nose! First figure I picked up ...to the market he's worthless to me he is priceless
