I think the trouble is economy or otherwise most people hate their job

Im trying to re train to do web design. I have a pretty good brain for ideas, so hopefully could make a few quid. I have always known I want to be self employed and thats the way I want to go.

Maybe do that and work the doors mate. Good source of students, cash and clunge

thought you had to be hard to work doors . . Or you mean youth club

The new doorman these days are mostly muppets down here. I worked the doors for 3 years and loved it, but it's no job for a engaged bloke.

In all seriousness Gary clearly has the skills and the pay is great. If I was single again I would be back doing it like a shot.

I have considered working the doors, But I don't have the right temperament for it.

I only just managed to hold it together when a student is annoying me.

You don`t need to be good tempered mate. I admit more than once I took my own problems to work and as long as they are focused on the right person, no problem. I always hated that minority that just wanted to bully people or molest girls. They are always there and as long as they get the full brunt of it, happy days. Sara said that I was calmer when I worked the doors, my launguage was awful, but man it was a blast.

I don't know many folk who are happy in their work and most jobs have their pro's and con's.

A con with my job,and it's me that's being ****ing conned,I'm expected to give three days off up over the Xmas period for nowt.

I'm off work tomorrow and next Monday then that's it right up till Xmas Day,off Boxing Day and back in the Sunday. Two days off in the next 17 .....great and I do 11/12 hours a day as it is.No time for posting on the SWF in the run up till Xmas :D

" I have always known I want to be self employed and thats the way I want to go." Yep after 7 years in the same job I recently quit, I lasted 7 years at my last job too. My wife bought a business for me to run- bless her :D Now she's the boss 24/7 :|

Yeah Dom it's pretty ****,all I want to do Xmas day is rest or sleep,my parents understand but some think I'm a bit miserable,I'm not I'm just knackered. At least I don't have any kids ....yet.

I work for one of the main supermarkets ( not saying which as l don't want to slag them off in public)as a deputy manager and they demand quite a lot from youin terms of effort and your time.

Oh I forgot,I've got to go down to store on Boxing Day twice, once to do a check of the building, fridges ect, then again in the evening to let the night crew into store. So that's one day over Xmas where I don't have to see the twating place.

Is that good James,I mean it sounds good, but personally not sure if I could let the Mrs be the boss at home and at work too. :D

"Is that good James,I mean it sounds good, but personally not sure if I could let the Mrs be the boss at home and at work too. " Not sure yet, hence the neutral face. Ask me again in 6 months  She'll be more the owner at work & I'll be the boss, I'm used to her being boss at home. I conceded defeat years ago

Well i have had some **** news today that will allow me to "break free".

I had a meeting this morning with my boss and was told that due to economic reasons they are looking at making people redundant. I have been offered a compromise agreement that will give me a decent payout. So from today i am officially on garden leave unitl i have successfully negotiated the settlement.

Not sure how i feel at the moment - a bit shell shocked!!

Looks like the buying of vintage toys will be put on hold for a while until i have myself sorted in a new role. You never know i may also have to sell some of my collection.

I will be around here though - and probably more than i have been recently - i need something to do during the day!!

**** happend but i do have a fridge full of budweiser.

Steve

Sorry to hear that mate. Hope you get a nice payout and a better job, then it just becomes a fresh start with a bonus :D

Enjoy the buds and im sure everything will work itself out.

that's some **** news Steve, hope you get a big payout and a new job fast.

Dom/Spoons,

thanks for the comments guys, not sure how big the payout is going to be but it should allow me to ensure the mortgage is covered and all bills are paid for 4 to 5 months at least.

I am still feeling quite positive at the moment and to be honest i am planning to have th run up to xmas as a chill out and then get stuck into th job hunting in the new year.

Steve

Steve, sorry to hear that pal, especially this time of year i mean what difference would 3 weeks have made.

For all the moaning I've done on page 2 of this thread one of the biggest benefits is job security, after all folk have to eat,and believe me the folk who shop at our store are eating plenty at the mo

that's the key, especially as you've just moved. plenty of time to find a job - take it easy Steve :)

Crap Steve :( You not long ago got a promotion didn't you? Well at least in the last few years I have known you from the forums!

I never understand the pay offs, it makes no sense to sack someone in a **** economy moment yet give them 6 months pay to leave with, surely its best to keep the better staff and ride it out for 6 months..

Anyway, I hope a new job is just around the corner mate, have a beer for me !

Joe,

my sentiments exactly. But at the end of the day the business has made the decision and the industry i have worked in since leaving UNiversity can only see the pound notes at the bottom of a P&L sheet.

Anyway - moving on - i dont want to dwell on it and i will spend the next few days negotiating the settlement and getting as much as i possibly can.

And all i can say is thanks for all of the kind comments from you guys - it is very much appreciated.

Steve

Sure the settlement will go ok Steve, remember always let a wookie win!
