Because think about it.
It was made in 1977, the only disco looking thing is the death star, which Luke Skywalker destroys, he destroyed disco. Because 2 years later in 1979 "Disco Demolition Night" happend, and people declared disco as dead. I think Star Wars paved the way for it. Because there is not single music track in Star Wars that has disco music, its more like 1950s classical Hollywood score and music.
And one can also see the titles too
"A New Hope 1977
Empire Strikes Back 1980 (Thats probably symbolic for Bell Bottoms and Bee Gee fans trying their last resistance)
Return of the Jedi 1983 (The good ending, disco is officially killed)
"
And i think thats why 4-6 are as remembered. 1-3 may have just been made to fill in the blanks which is why it got mixed reviews. So its not due to special effects, its the fact that it paved the way for anti disco sentiment. And where did the disco goers go after that? The LGBT movement in the 90s of course. And thats why in Disney Star Wars Luke Skywalker is more of a hermit loser, because the disco people will never forget what that hero did to destroy disco! And Kathleen Kennedy ran the show for this reason
I mean look at this picture of George Lucas, does that look like a guy who is happy in 1977? NO! He is very serious!
But they not only want to destroy Star Wars, but also anything straight or cool related. Because destruction of Disco was done by straight people who loved Rock n roll. they will never forget
