Thought I'd try asking here as I'm not a member of any football forums!

When I was a kid you could write a letter to a football player addressed to their club, and they would send you back a real signed photo, I had a few when I was a kid. I told my son about this and he wants to try it, but it's now 35 years later and I have no idea if this is even still a thing. Has anyone tried it recently? Would it now be by email rather than letter? any advice appreciated.

@lejackal you'll like this - in about 1995 my best mate at the time Lee was an Arsenal fan, so I wrote to Tony Adams asking for a signed photo to give to him for his birthday. He obliged - but addressed it to me instead of him 🤦‍♂️ so I never gave it to him! In fact this is now the only one left, I did have Gary Lineker from Spurs too but lost it along the way somewhere :(

No idea if they still do it, you may get a generic email back or you may get one with the players squad photo etc.
Given the prevalence of Evilbay now I'm not sure they would email out signed photos.

No harm in trying though.

Ps, I hope you didn't make him support Spurs! 😉

So during lockdown, or maybe the term afterwards, my sons primary school set a challenge of write to someone famous and I got Logan to write to Aubameyang - sent it to the club training ground and actually got back…..**** all.

I imagine so many people try it that they simply cannot reply to them all 🤷‍♂️

Interestingly timing wise, my lad broke his arm a week or so ago meaning he misses the end of his rugby union season, including the tour, and all of his rugby league season. He doesn't know it, but I've just (on Friday) written to Leicester Tigers to try and get a get well soon message of some description from his favourite player. I'm vaguely hopeful as top flight egg chasers are generally more accessible to us mere mortals. I'll update if we get a response.

My late mate I mentioned in another tread was a massive Man U fan. On his 17th Birthday he was in Hospital his mum got him a Man U card and signed it pretending it's was from Alex Ferguson to cheer him up as he was very depressed . As far I know he never found out it was his mum who signed it.

You could write to anyone and get their autograph, back in the day! My sister once wrote to George Lucas on my behalf (without me knowing) and a few months later I got a letter from someone at Lucasfilm, along with George's genuine autograph and a lenticular SW bookmark. No idea where they are now. Also got autographed pics of the Saturday Superstore presenters lol.

However, in more recent times, my wife (school SENCo), was working with a lad (ADHD etc), who was obsessed with Wayne Rooney and Justin Lee Collins (remember him?!). She helped him write lovely letters to both, but didn't hear back from either one, leaving one very disappointed little boy.
