Hunting

Kind of nice to be on a forum where most people are against hunting. I've never understood it myself, I mean, hunting is a bit one sided isn't it, we've got guns... Though I'd happily watch a "hunter" fight hand to hand with a lion.

As Harrison Ford recently said, we need nature, nature doesn't need us. It's not our planet, it doesn't belong to us. The sooner tradition, religion, politics and human behaviour falls into this line if thinking the better. Any of the above that causes pain and suffering to other humans or animals should go.

I'm a vegetarian, but I'm not against animals being farmed for food, so long as they have some kind of quality life and are killed humanely. Fat chance in this day and age.
 
Fishing is hunting for fun for many people? For relaxation & beer drinking.... Fishing is bloody boring, unless you're on a boat with 'ladies' serving drinks.
Culling kangaroo is like squashing flies. I guess enjoying it crosses some line.
I've had a pig dog & that is not a 'sport' I'd recommend to many. I went deer hunting in America- far too cold and walking long distances is not for me. I have a defeatist view on the life span of mankind. Until we can start culling humans I see no point getting upset about a lion death that injected $100 000s into the local economy. Especially when I swim in beaches protected by shark nets.

I could imagine views on animals is a bit different to you. It does appear that everything on your island or swimming around can kill you.

I'm genuinely amazed that anyone in Australis makes it through the day - every single Australian species kills :wink:
 
I'm sure there's no argument that there is a big difference between killing for survival vs for blood lust. And as much as us aussies joke/exaggerate about all our deadly animals they really are real :lol: I squish at least one red back spider a week.
 
For food and survival I can understand, but not bloodlust filled fun/trophy hunting.

I'm from a farming family and as a kid was used to being with animals and seeing them killed so never really had an issue with animals for food.

It's those that hunt for fame/trophies that I find difficult
 
Am against what that guy also done with the lion. I think that's pure bloodlust thats not for me.
But the fact remains animals will be culled or hunted for what ever reason its the same out come all around farms all over the world for human survival. When I sit at the kichen table and listen to my father telling me a fox is killing his lambs every night of course I will try to help him. I am not a farmer but I know that the lambs are his only income from livestock.
My wife hardly would touch meat but eats fish. I am sure she would be shocked if she read the hammering the roe and fallow deer take from farmers when they damage there cereal crops in the south of England. The numbers are getting out of control and all these deer don't end up eaten. The numbers are too great.
The poor badger is now getting culled because it's feared it carries TB which will wipe out a whole farmers cattle livestock if it's detached on the farm. The badger never gets eaten but gets a raw deal. We don't have cattle on our farm but if we did the badger would also be unpopular. I myself eat steak so I understand why this is in demand.
I worked on large grain farms in Australia and the poor kangaroo got the works because of the damage it was causing. The farmer was actually paying a guy to control them. They wer also not eaten as there wer too many. I couldn't say to him it was cruel as he was living in the outback counting rain in millimetres depending on his crops for his family to survive.
I know people have strong opinions on animals being killed but it will always happen with humans only worrying about there own survival. It's just not possible for animals not to be controlled by culling or hunting around farms if they are damaging crops. The fox is even now starting to be a problem in city's around England. I think the government is paying or considering paying guys to control them.
I grew up on a fram so of course I don't want to see any animal suffer. I would say the reason why foxes are now entering city's is because the numbers are getting out of control because they have no natural predator. So they are searching for more food supplies. It's the same in the country if the farmer doesn't control them they will wreak havoc as they mutiply in numbers.
 
I think you have to consider that we are moving into their territory as well.

Nothing breads with such devastating effect than humans.
 
I totally agree look what humans can do to each other so what chance has a poor animal.
It's a shame the way the whole world is that everyone can't live together in peace.

For the uninitiated, this is what Magpies are like during "swooping season" here in Australia.
Fun fact: people have been known to walk around with empty ice cream containers on their heads to protect themselves in lieu of helmets.
Things to remember:
1) This is an Australian magpie. it is not like European magpies.It's not a flappy bappy chirpy little shitbag you can bat away with your palm. This is a ****ing crow in cow makeup
2) Cats and dogs will not try and take them on because cats and dogs know they will lose
3) They live for 25 years and yes, they will remember your face. Although I will confess that my 36 years of life I have never seen a dead one. Under tumblr logic this means they are immortal
4) They are insane. Cold stone bug-**** insane. And they give zero ****s.I've seen them attack cyclists, moving cars, trucks, even a goddamn train.
So imagine, if you will, you are walking merrily down a street one spring and suddenly this train-assaulting, cow-cosplaying ball of immortal feathers and batshit insanity comes screaming out of nowhere and tries to embed itself in the back of your skull, beak clacking like the pump of a shotgun as it tears out chunks of your hair.

Yup, and the bastards are super aggressive which makes them even worse. There's even a type that like to live in trees and are prone to dropping on poor unsuspecting passers by.

They were considered quite deadly until they came up with an antidote.

I shoot rats and go fishing so i guess its hypocritical to say shooting deer for food is wrong,

i suppose it depends on the mindset ans what enjoyment you are actually getting from it

1. i hate rats and happily shoot them because they are vermin (but i shoot to kill humanely)
2 i enjoy fishing for admiration and preservation, although i enjoy the hunt, i dont intentionally hurt fish and i do admire and fund their habitat.


blasting the hell out of a deer for enjoyment wouldnt sit well but if you shoot to eat then i suppose its ok.
