This must have been done before but i'm just watching Jedi now and realised I haven't seen any of the films in ages. Like maybe 12 months or so. What kind of fan am I?

Also these versions i'm watching are the messed about releases with extra whistles and bells. Some of the scenes make me cringe  Just at the Jabba scene now with the 'new' dance band part. Awful!

How often do people watch the OT? Weekly, monthly, yearly or less? Just strikes me that that's why we're all here and yet I don't see many threads on the actual films. Just collecting. Boush is on now. ****ing wicked :)

Back to it...

Great question/topic

We watched them all on May the 4th – lovely SW marathon broken up by SW quiz between each film :D
Last year I recorded the 3 films when they were shown on ITV2 so I have them ready to play on my Sky box and because of that I will regularly watch maybe half an hour here and there – oddly I seem to default to ROTJ even though it's not my fav off the 3.

Having them recorded on sky just makes it easier to hit play – realise that sounds ridiculously lazy, like it's too much effort to actually pop in a dvd or blu ray but I kinda like the fact that the recorded versions have adverts in them plus I just flat refuse to watch blu ray version of ROTJ with the latest round of unnecessary changes (Vader saying noooooo for f*cks sake) just spoils it for me.

As a treat we'll watch the original videos but I'm trying to preserve them until 2017 as I am utterly convinced they are going to sell the original versions on 4k to celebrate the 40th anniversary.

It's probably only a couple of times a year that we properly sit down and watch one from start to finish though.

On average I'd say I get through all of them every couple of months. As above comment, I recorded them on Sky+ for May 4th and have increased the average a lot as its so easy to press play when nothing else is on. ANH for example has been seen (broken up) 3-4 times in the past fortnight :D

Flicked on empire this morning and saw this :D . I watch them about twice a year and although I'd like to watch them more regularly I deliberately limit myself to keep them special.

Haven't watched the prequels in over 10 years

I hardly ever watch them

Currently going through all 6 as the Mrs wanted to see them. Just EP3 to go.

Not sure why I hardly do. I think I just don't want to ruin to joy of watching them by making it too often.

I actually watch the documentary that came with the OT DVD set more than I watch the films.

Watch the OT on May 4 th usually, and maybe a couple of times throughout the year.

Always notice little things that I've missed in the past, and find myself saying the dialogue prior to the character saying it  winds my Mrs up no end!

Once or twice a year for me, I'm the same as you Garry I often pull the DVDs out with the thought of watching one and nearly always end up watching the doco instead. I think it gives you that SW hit without having to watch all three films.

I watch them a few times a year, not as often as i possibly should, but i do love watching and as Mike said picking up on little bits here and there.

I'm the sad git who still has a VHS player just so I can watch the unedited versions of Star Wars on tape once or twice a year - Living the dream baby!

I'll always watch the OT when they are on television, rarely if ever watch the prequels. Often I get the urge to watch Star Wars or Empire so will pop in the DVD (original editions only), Jedi I watch less frequently. So all 3 OT films maybe 4 or 5 Times a year.
Like others, I often watch the 'Empire of Dreams' Documentary, great stuff.

Seems like quite a few don't watch them that often so as not to spoil the experience. Totally get that :) In the early 90's as a fledgling and excited collector I pretty much watched one or two of the films every week. Obsessed. Now though like others I am more likely to catch them on TV rather than stick in the DVD. Watching this way brings a new appreciation in my opinion and you do spot new things, or things you had previously forgotten about.

The box set I have is the one that was released a few years back with all the fancy art work on the cover. The blu-ray version. I'm not sure but think there might be the original versions with that set as well. Just want to see them as they were released really.

Just from watching yesterday my top 3 'worst new scenes ever' in Jedi are as follows:

1. Hayden Kristensen replacing the original Anakin. Ruined

2. The new **** in Jabba's palace. Ruined

3. The whole ending scene. It even has Jar Jar in it ...and no Yub Nub! WTF man! Ruined! :x

I try to watch all 6 films every couple of years, but am stuck at the moment fell asleep watching PM and keep putting Episode 2 off. Watch bits when their on TV as well, great question by the way. :D

My aim is to watch them all before December. :)

Really can't remember the last time I watched any of the OT from start to finish, I've got the special edition DVD's sat in my desk drawer but I seem to lose interest as soon as anything "special" appears on screen (Tried to watch ROTJ the other day for example but the Jabba palace musical scene + the sarlaac pit monster AKA little shop of horrors venus fly trap thing was enough for me :( )

Maybe if I had a copy of something half decent I'd watch them more often, what's the best edit out there?

The Star Wars trilogy remastered boxset. It has the remastered versions but i'm not sure if they are the new completely ruined editions. Might just be the ones where they fixed some of the old FX. But, most importantly, it has the original releases as well. Can probably be picked up for very little on Amazon. Don't bother with the more recent blu-ray set. It has some nice documentaries but the movies are the really crap versions.

Seems like people need to watch the OT more. If the new versions are putting you off the originals are out there.

I only watch the blu-rays now but every now and again (a couple of years) I stick the original DVDs in from the 2004 set.
I probably watch all 6 once a year but will watch all 6 just before seeing TFA again.

I used to watch the films quite often but I have to admit I cant remember the last time I watched any of them in full, think it would be when my daughter was younger and I was starting her Star Wars education, what tends to happen now is that it goes on and I watch bits of the film then I get called away or told to do something. I must make the time to sit down and watch them in full soon.

It looks like maybe some sort of Star Wars screening is in order round someone's house :? Who's got a large enough gaff to fit lots of drunk Star Wars fans? :)

I used to watch them pretty much every week, so much so that I virtually know them word-for-word even if I haven't seen them for ages. These days I try and watch them all at least once a year but usually just on in the background while doing something else. But whenever I do watch them I really enjoy it! Haven't watched the prequals for a very long time, don't really consider them part of the story.

I actually don't mind watching the prequels.

I do tend to swear repeatedly at Jar Jar binks, but am slowly learning to just ignore him.

They still feel like part of the star wars universe and so I don't ultimately mind them.

But the order is always 4-6 then I watch 1-3. I feel it's better to watch them in that way, they don't naturally flow if watched 1-6.

For me anyway.
