How much?

Are those DT sabers the only fake things in your collection Spoons? If so that's kind of what I mean, you wouldn't settle for anything else fake but then you sneak some DT sabers in lol that's what I can't get my head round.

I bet when you started collecting you didn't think you would have a huge set of quality and rare Han Hoth MOCs or a proof or a first shot etc, but you have all those things because you worked hard to obtain original pieces, if you a bake cake through blood sweat and tears with the best ingredients you can find and then stick a couple of fake cherries on the top it doesn't really have the same effect to me.

Anyway enough with the analogies and I didn't mean to upset anyone, I don't think anyone is going to commit suicide over some DT weapons or change their opinion because of my posts but I really just wanted to ask the question to see why people do give in on some things and not others. If anything its for my own benefit to try and understand a little better.

no problemo Joe - i was just playing devils advocate really as I don't feel strongly one way or another on the matter.

My sabers are the only repros i own (as far as I'm aware), apart from a resealed Han Hoth that I got conned on (pp refunded me though :) )

I collect for my own enjoyment so I buy what I like as long as I can afford it. The repro set used to be framed on my dining room wall, but I wouldn't have them in with my loose collection as they are really just a novelty - perhaps like your POTF 8D8

you know POTF 8D8 was never produced but not everyone would know. I know my sabres are fake, but others might not (I know it's not quite the same).

My real dt luke has pride of place, my fake ones are just nice to look at. It's all about personal choice, and if something is expensive you can be sure that there will be a fake one, whether it be cars, watches, toys or whatever.

I used to run a vintage car and the same opinions used to come up there regarding original and repro parts. Personally I do feel that a lot of vintage SW collectors feel that toys are somehow more special than anything else, imagine if you bought a rip-off rolex thinking it was real...

I must admit, with my own views on all things repro I actually struggled with buying that POTF custom, I even wrote repro on the back and scratched it into the bubble when I received it .. (is that too far?)

You are correct though, its all about what you enjoy and if you are happy so be it :) I think the custom 8D8 is so piss poorly made that it makes me laugh whenever I look at it but if someone found it who didn't have the first clue they could actually think it was real, perhaps I need to make the ultimate move of burning it :D then my journey will be complete  for me its more of a fun piece than an imitation as it wasn't ever produced so I can't really imitate it.

As for the repro DT sabers.....I think I made bollux reconsider which is something ;)

Joe your passion is great. And that attitude is what will keep this hobby alive well into the next generation :) As a result of my "education" from you and Jay in the past all my reseals(Han MOCs  ) are cardbacks and my repros are being marked(including my set of fake DT sabers  )

I'm kinda with Joe on this. But also agree with Spoon's point.

I think the analogy of the picture only goes so far, and really depends on why you would have DT sabers.

If it's the rarity that appeals to you, then having a fake seems pointless because you haven't purchased a rare item...so where's the appeal? I think that's the same with the picture.

Now if it's to do with visual display, that's a different matter, as a fake can look as visually attractive as the real deal.

Also as Chris said, if it's about chronology and completeness, then a fake can represent that.

Even top museums have copies in order to illustrate history. I don't see the repro DT's being any different in this respect.

So Chris, if you can pick them up for a price you are willing to pay, and you want them for something other than the rarity, i'd say go for it.
