How long is the Earth going to last?

Well in actual fact the worlds population rate is slowing???? Any of you read "New Scientist" ??? Use to be an average of 5+ kids now it is something like 2.6 per family things like better education and understanding are the reason for this...
And what is wrong anyway with things evolving or dying out????? The problem is with us humans we want to play god...Natures principals are built around survival of the fittest something us do gooder humans seem to forget 90% of the time :(
The planet will be around long after the Human race I am afraid ;)

Look on the internet and see what George Carlin had to say about it  he has the right idea IMO

That was really funny! AND he actually managed to cheer me up with his little story lol

Nice man, sorry to hear he passed on- RIP

I can imagine you having little rants like that Josh on your boat with a joint in one hand and a beer in the other while Sharks circle your boat, hahahaa

Good thread this, i think all opinions are the same.

As said in the Matrix we are a virus, we consume and destroy our surroundings and then move on when there is nothing left.
The Human race is so set on self-gratification we will destroy the earth eventually, be it either by war or pure ignorance.

I myself am a sort of tree hugger, i love trees and our family days out consisit of Sherwood forest ect, if i was a millionaire i would by acres of wooland and preserve it.

But like Gary says...in the long run we are ****ed, we know we are destrying the earth but we continue to do it like retards...zombies just plodding along lol.

Interesting thread. You must remember however, that 2012 is only a little over a couple of years away and as the Mayan prophecies predict, that'll be the end of us all

The world does need cleansing of idiots though. I noticed when out walking the other weekend that some dog owners are picking up after their pet when it decides to empty itself, but are then leaving the plastic, **** filled, bag on the ground, or even worse hanging off a tree! Twats!! I've heard others have witnessed this phenomenon too. Bring armageddon and quick I reckon! Just save the bunnies and sensible folk.

" but are then leaving the plastic, **** filled, bag on the ground, or even worse hanging off a tree! Twats!!" Now that's funny. What would make someone think hanging dog turds from a tree is a good idea? Maybe they live near a plastics factory and breathe in all the fumes.

Aussie, plantman - it's simple, the sick ****ers would rather the poor litter man on £6 an hour pick up their dog's turds (in a bag or not),rather than them......cant stand things like that,I always pick up after my dog and sometimes even take it home if theres no litter bin on site.

Also on a similar note, last year we found a burnt out car half buried into the football pitch we was due to play on that same morning,no one even thought to consider that the park is in a council estate and is always full of kids as well,it's all wrong guys and it ****s me right off

Er the car was buried into the pitch???? trying to get rid of the evidence were they? Not very bright in your neighbourhood by the sounds of it Browny..Time to move I think :)
I mean we have a condom tree...yes thats right a condom tree... in town to try and encourage safe sex amongst the local indigenous population, it just has free frangers in a box basically :) Love to know what the idea behind the dog poo tree is

Surely the dog turd tree is the ultimate form of contraceptive. Instead of sticking on a rubber he sticks on a dog turd and then NO woman will come near him!

Has this thread inadvertently solved the problem of over population???

The dog **** tree.. Genius!

Josh - yeah thankfully not my neighbourhood but just a few miles away, every town has good and bad areas, even posh towns like tunbridge wells.

I kid you guys not the car was literally half buried in the corner of the pitch, not sure exactly what they were trying to do but I guess they got ****ed digging or whatever

Does the condom tree have different flavours and sizes?

Well...I have had a busy few days ;)

Thanks to Josh actually , after visiting his awesome link to George Carlin talking about how the Earth has nothing to worry about compared to us I have been doing a lot of talking, reading and researching.

Thanks to my brother in law , after a conversation about these very things he passed me this link :

(NEW LINK - http://www.viddler.com/explore/micheleforan/videos/2/ )

If you enjoyed this topic and have some interest in the global "climate change due to humans/c02" etc etc then you must take an hour out one night to watch "The great global warming swindle"

It really does put a whole new spin on things and shows that many of the things that up till now I (due to the media coverage) had pretty much swallowed hook line and sinker is really not the case at all, there is no scientific evidence to support that anything we are doing has ANY link to the ice melting or the temperature rising or any other doom and gloom prophecies!

I didn't see this documentary the first time round (produced in 2007) so perhaps some of you caught it, its well worth a watch and I look forward to seeing some interesting comments afterwards! :D

Enjoy!

As stated previously, I teach environmental ethics unit at a 6th college.

The unit takes the view that humans need to treat the world differently, which I am happy to accept.

However i always do a bit at the start regarding whether there is this great human caused world wide environmental crisis.

The world has over the past 6 billion or so years heated up and cooled down, as part of its natural cycle...all without any help from us. And it will continue to do so.

We are no real threat to this planet, however we are a real threat to ourselves. I think we are more likely to blow ourselves up in a nuclear holocaust than suffer the results of global warming.

There is a hell of a lot of money in environmentalism. From the millions plowed into research, through to the environmentally friendly products we are all told to buy. It is a billion dollar industry, and I don't see people relinquishing that anytime soon. So the belief that we are the cuse of the environmental problems will continue to be perpetuated.

That said I'm against pollution/littering/deforrestation etc and do believe as humans we should take better care of this planet. This comes from the fact that ultimately we will suffer sooner and make a naturally changing situation worse for ourselves.....it's never good to **** on your own doorstep.

+1

I think the biggest smack in the face was the last 5 minutes of that video where basically this global warming theory is hindering peoples development, these groups are telling people in Africa who don't have electricity but have coal and oil to start producing and developing that they can't use that and instead should use ****ing solar panels!

...USA wouldn't want Africa to be a threat now would they!

Have you watched that documentary Gary? Maybe you could use that in your lectures?

Glad to hear you are involved in teaching students both sides of the story, I think its really important to get things like this across to younger people, its all too easy to just play along with whatever is in the paper or on the TV - I am guilty of that!

I started watching it.

Doesn't it question 'an inconvenient truth' ?

Certainly I never finished watching it. Where's best to view it?

Hey Gary I did post a link up above, it was fine yesterday when I watched it but I just clicked on it again and it flagged as a threat on my anti virus lol, I will hunt around for another stream of it and remove the old link just in case.
