How do you know if a genuine paint error?

Is there anyway you can tell if a figure left the factory without the paint applied or if it has been removed at a later date?

I picked up this Leia and although it has a lot of paint rub seems to be devoid of any paint on the eyes and eyebrows. I would have thought if it was down to wear there would be some paint left

I have no idea, maybe it depends of where you have it from. If you found it at a garage sale with other figures so you could compare how the other figures have been treated or something like that where it came from a childhood lot then I guess it would maybe be better than if you have it from ebay from a seller that has it from another seller and another seller again. But then again I have no idea, maybe others can help with this one
