Anyone know anything about house alarm systems for the UK?

I need to get one fitted, not sure on the best company. Banham seems to be a popular one.

Cheers

Any idea what possible values might be on a 3 bedroom house?

i think sky is the limit, we had ours done and had open/shut sensors fitted on all windows and doors, and the garage too, it cost a lot, if you are after just a basic indoor sensor system you can pay for the alarm and box fitting and do the movement sensors yourself.

then there is all the other stuff like having a sim card in the alarm to text you if it goes off, IP cameras with live webshots ect. lol

waste of money ,if someone wants to rob you they will and if alarm goes of all your neighbours will just lay in bed cursing you to turn that alarm of cause there up for work.
my advice get a dog .only time mine bark at night is if theres a reason .though if a robber every got in they would just lick em

agreed. all you need is a big ****ing bat, and the ambulance service on speed dial

possibly if your in a remote area with no direct next door neighbour, but what do you do if your next door neighbours alarm goes off...you look out of the window, and if a couple of guys are filling a van you call the cops lol
id say having a good alarm defo does make robbers think twice, they will target someone who doesnt, or someone who lives out of sight.

Batter him/them to death then stick a knife in their hands and say they threatened you, your life was in danger self defence blah blah blah. Your word against a dead mans!
Then see how long it is before any ****er to burgal you again!

i hope to god i never have to find out weas', but with kids in house to protect, that is what would happen.

i had a situation a few years ago when me and my wife first moved in together, where a group of about 15 yobs were gobbing off in the middle of the night, shouting, smashing bottles, jumping up and down on and smashing cars in the car park. i phoned the police about 4 times and was told there was not alot they could do about it at the moment.
hundreds of pounds worth of damage later, and a **** scared wife, i phoned them again and told them that i got hold of one of them, and i thought i had killed him. well.........within 2 minutes, 5 cop cars turned up! ****ing amazing.
five minutes ago it wasn't important!!!

id kick the **** out of anyone putting my kids in danger, and i would use ANYTHING to stop them, the only flipside is the retribution, these nutters would come back and set your house on fire, and whats worse, preventing them wanting to do your house over or your family burning in an arson attack.

A while back we were robbed a couple of times, got a basic system installed, sensors on the doors and a couple of windows and weren't robbed again.

As plant says, the robbers always look for the easiest houses. Cost about £500 Gary but it was 10 years ago, monitored systems have a monthly charge too but I figured that if the alarm annoys the neighbours enough someone will call the police.

You say that Spoons but I know it's policy for some forces that unless someone has heard breaking glass or seen someone inside a house (with the alarm going off) then they won't send anyone as they don't have enough resources! My advice would be to lie and tell your neighbours to lie (if you know them  ) as that way someone will be sent to check it out.

Even more reason not to get a monitored system

HOW TO INSTALL A HOME SECURITY SYSTEM:

1. Go to a second-hand store and buy a pair of men's used size 14-16 work boots.
2. Place them on your front porch, along with a copy of 'Guns & Ammo' Magazine.
3. Put a few giant dog dishes next to the boots and magazines.
4. Leave a note on your door that reads:

Hey Blue,
We've gone for more ammo and beer. Be back in an hour. Don't mess with the pit bulls; they attacked the mailman this morning and messed him up real bad.

I don't think Killer took part, but it was hard to tell from all the blood.

Anyway, I locked all four of 'em in the house.

Better wait outside. Be right back.

Cheers,

Wacka
