Hi, I'm new here and fairly new to collecting.
Just got a few questions.....
What is the best way to display your figures, as I'm worried about sunlight etc.....also figures still on cards, how do ya stop the bubble yellowing or melting..????
Also I have a few figures on cards....how do I know they are not fakes etc....???
Also where do ya find out about toy fairs etc...???

thanks for any help.

welcome lambo7, hope you stick around :)

I display my loose figures in an Ikea case and my carded figures on a shelf, both away from direct sunlight. I dont worry too much about yellowing as bubbles/figures can yellow in pitch black too, its just the plastic breaking down

best way of checking if your cards are fakes is to post some pics on here, and we'll give you our thoughts

and as to shows, depends on where you live but there are regular shows at the NEC (memorabilia) and at Milton Keynes (collectormania), but there are loads more too

hope that helps a bit :)

welcome

i dont collect carded but i do know that sunlight, UV and heat can cause the yellowing to bubbles - just the same as figures yellow

have you got a room size collection? or wanting a few shelves/display cabinets?

IKEA bertby is a favourite.....

you can buy film that you can coat your windows with to stop UV from coming in the room.

ALSO flouresent bulbs emit UV so stay away from those - incandesent bulbs are better as no UV is emitted apparently

Hello mate!

Those are concerns that most of us have. Think its generally accepted that sunlight will affect cards, plastic and bubbles over time. I have my stuff stored away in a cupboard at present, but hopefully plan to display them in a cabinet at some point. Ideally this would be in a windowless room (cellar/loft etc), or a room without direct sunlight, with a decent curtain.

As for fakes - plenty of people here will be able to help! Don't rush into anything - if it seems to good to be true, it probably is.

thanks for the welcome.
I have a few carded figures, which I hope are original and I have just bought a boba fett on original card, but new bubble?
Also got a carded Gamorrean Guard AFA rated, but after being sealed the bubble got a small hole ( melted ??? )
I have about 6 AFA graded loose figures and about 10 C9+ figures. my best figure has to be the Blue Snaggletooth at the moment but I've onle been collecting a short time.

my main focus to get get all the original figures, as I dont have many at the moment I just look for bargains?
I try for figures on original card, then AFA rated loose figures, then very good loose figures.?
I suppose its the same as everyone else..??????

Yes, most people start out going for all the loose figures and then move onto other things.

Seeing spoons loose collection reminds me I need to finish mine. I still don't have the last 17.

Welcome to the forum btw! :)

Hi welcome
I started collecting loose figures and quickly moved on to carded. Bought 4 kenner Return Of the Jedi figures.
These have been stored away since i bought them.
they did have slight yellow bubbles but this has worsened even though they have been kept out of sun light. So i dont know how to prevent yellowing.

yea, I'm worried about paying a lot of money on a carded figure then the bubble yellowing ?
there must b a way to stop it.?
