As a devout insomniac I was lying in bed, wide awake, at about half three the other night and found myself trying to think of the best International football team ever (made up from players of any era).
Trust me there's **** all on TV or the radio at that time!

Anyway, here is what I settled for. Anyone wanna have a go at it, or got a different team?

1) Lev Yashin,
2) Franz Beckenbauer,
3) Paulo Maldini,
4) Franco Baresi,
5) Lothar Matthaus,
6) Ferenc Puskas,
7) Zinedine Zidane,
8) Johan Cruyff,
9) George Best,
10) Pele,
11) Maradona

Obviously, there are dozens of Brazilians I could have included (Zico, Carlos Alberto, Jarzinho) and the likes of Alfredo de Stefano, Michel Platini, Gerd Muller, Dino Baggio, Dino Zoff etc etc etc etc

Here's my choice. Greatest team never to win the world cup:-

Alan Rough
William Donachie
Martin Buchan
Stuart Kennedy
Thomas Forsyth
Bruce Rioch
Asa Hartford
Archie Gemmill
Graeme Souness
Kenny Dalglish
Joe Jordan

8)

Jason

I was gonna ask where Hansen was but Wikipedia says his first cap was in '79.
He only got 26 caps!

van basten was better then maradonna

:? I don't know.
Van Basten retired young, and Maradona dragged himself on for years, helped out by a tonne of coke!

v basten was forced to retire ,but you could say he played in proberly the best dutch and milan sides ever so any top striker would score
